2000 Z71 Tahoe (old body style)

I'm looking for a way to override the DTRL's without one-clicking the parking brake. Does anyone know of an aftermarket switch/relay kit or something similar. Or even how or where to wire one in from scratch?

pull one of the fuses in the panel by the drivers door....i will go out on my brake and find the fuse for you, i have a 96, so it should be the same....

OK, its fuse # 15 labeled DRL - FOG......the only thing is, you have a Z71, so im assuming you have fog lights. This may disable those also. I have and LT, with aftermarket fogs wired to the parking lights, so this was not an issue for me.

Try it and see what happens, if it works great, if not, there is one other fuse, but when you pull it out, the warning beep for the door open/lights on starts beeping, and it stays beeping constantly. You could pull this other fuse, and then pull the actual speaker or the fuse for that warning tone, but you wont know if you left your lights on anymore (if you turn them on during the day and forget for example.)

Thanks for the reply but that's not really what I'm looking for. I don't want to start pulling fuses because I want to have the option of running the lights on a moment's notice, like with a switch or something.

Here is your answer.. but it must be done everytime you get into the truck.. You have to hit your dome override button 3-4 times in a row ... That will shut them right down until you get back in and restart the truck in which you will have to hit the overide 3-4 times once again... Its clean and the easiest way to do it

why dont you just pull out the DRL module? Its under the dash, in the middle (under the stereo and hvac panel). It is aluminum and has heatsinks, a pair of pliers will get it out and it does have a wire clip too take off. -good luck-

If one-clicking the emergency brake on your truck disables the running lights as well as illuminating the emergency brake dash indicator lamp as it does on my '98 Tahoe, I think that you could probably accomplish your goal by wiring a toggle switch that would by-pass the plunger switch mounted on the emergency brake, and then mounting that switch on your dash. If you wanted "flash to pass" function, you could use a momentary switch instead of a toggle.

I don't think that you would need a relay to do this, as your toggle switch would probably be rated at least as high as the emergency brake plunger switch.
