dead battery and alternators???

ok becuz of some repair issues (busted drivers side headlight) on my 91 MR2 i haven't driven it in about a month or so..... so it's been sitting idle for almost the entire time. i did have to move it about a 2 weeks ago to a diffrent parking spot. anyway the other day i went to start it and found the battery dead. i got a jump just so i could move it back to it's original parking spot. however today i went to jump it again as i had completed repairs on the head light. i found the battery completely dead. (by the way the battery is only about 9 months old) i know the battery could have died from being idle so long. now i have 3 questions.....

1) do you think it's cuz it was idle for so long or do you think it's the alternator?

2) i just recently bought the car and have never worked on an MR2, how hard is it to replace an alternator on one?

3) are their any other possibilities i haven't considered?

If you only ran it for a short time to move it, that would not drain the battery. A car can operate a very long time without an alternator.

I would also expect it to hold a charge for a month or two (or more). I don't know how long some batteries sit on the shelf at auto stores, but I bet it can be close to 3 months from manufacture to installation.

Is it possable that somewhere around the headlight there is a short?
Could you have left the headlights on when you fixed them?

Good luck.

Re: dead battery and alternators???

How clean was the Batt. ? I know it sound strange but a dirty case can draw a Batt. down.
Take a voltage meter and just put the red & black leads on the plasitc case near the post's. I have seen as much as 9 volts running across the top just from dirt.

Re: dead battery and alternators???

well i'm gonna take it to get tested tommarrow. it's still under warranty so hopefully it's just the battery. but again if it is the alternator how difficult is it to replace??
