Angry parking brake seized, I'm stuck

Hi, My 1999 Blazer is sitting in my driveway and I cant move anywhere. The emergency brake is on and I cant get it to release. I dont know if the cable is broken, or if it is something else.
Does anyone have any "quick fixes" I could try? I have things to do but not too much time to spend trying to get this thing going.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Is there any tension on the release lever or does it move freely?

Re: parking brake seized, I'm stuck

There doesnt seem to be any tension at all. I thought there was at first, but not anymore. It was pretty cold here last night. I'm thinking that might have had something to do with it.

Re: Re: parking brake seized, I'm stuck

Your truck should be equipped with 4 wheel disc brakes...the park brake is a mechanical design inside the read disc hubs..since you say it is cold, the shoes may be frozen to the hub..... (do it one time and you learn not to apply your parking brake when it is freezing and wet)

The park brake shoes are very thin and wear easily..you can try to rock your truck back and fourth to brake the shoes free..if that doesn't work, its time to do some disassembly.

Re: parking brake seized, I'm stuck

I feel kinda dumb now...I tried the release again. It seemed like there was some tension yesterday, but today I tried it and there was nothing. I assumed the cable was broken and the brakes were frozen. I figured before I start taking apart the brakes I would check the release itself. Turns out that the end of the cable came out of the slot in the release somehow.
Usually I just read these forums once in a while to see the interesting stuff, but I never registered or posted. Sorry to bother everyone with a pretty dumb question as my first post.
Thanks for the help GMMerlin, I think the brakes were probably frozen to start with, but pulling on the release too many times in my rush to get to work made it come out.
Thanks again for the help...,
