if it was the TO bearing youd hjear it everytime the clutch is p[ushed in(well, not really cuz of the wind/exhaust noise) but if you are idling, when you push in your clutch and you hear a funny nopise, and it goes away after you relase the clutch that would most likely be the TO bearing but if it only makes the noise when you shift to 3rd it is the synchros, it will eventually get worse. my cars does it into 2nd and 3rd when shifting into them at high rpms but I notice that the RPMs required to make it grind have lowered since i bought the car and my friends old teg did it to 2nd when driving hard when he got it but by the time he got rid of it it did it into 2nd all the time, even double clutching wouldnt get rid of it towards the end.

is the funny noise you refer to like a bad spring sound? cause this happend on my 87 teg and its starting to happen on my 95 gsr, kinda tickin me off. i wanna see what it is and see how much it is to fix it. its not very loud on the 95 yet but i wanna fix it before any more problems arise and it only happens when im pressing in the clutch, doesnt matter if im moving or not.

Re: Clutch and tranny sheeot

Whats the problem, grinding while shifting? Number 1 - driver error, honda trans is not meant to be shifted hard or fast. Number 2 - driver error caused bad synchro/gear. When shifting gears, neutral is between ALL gears for a reason, quick pause to line up synchro's.

Noises can also be made from internal bearing, usually the input shaft bearing, noise heard with clutch out, no noise clutch in. Also will make noise while driving.

Double clutching doesn't do a damn thing w/ a synchro trans, only reduces slight wear on downshifts.

No oil/fluid will fix problems that are already there, may cover them for a while, making things worse in the long run. IMO man/auto trans rebuild is not worth the time/money unless you are a trans. specialist. In most cases your better off replacing the whole trans. 2 gear sets/sychros, bearings, etc. will cost more than a rebuilt/used trans. I got my rebuilt for around $300 not including shipping.

well, double clutching does help because it takes longer and brings everything down to a lower sped before you engage the next gear, when you push in the clutch and go to neautral the engine rpms are dropping, then when you let the clutch out for the brief second it slows down the transmision shaft, then when you push back in the clutch and go into gera everything is spinnging slower and you dont get the grind. I know it helps get rid of the grinding sound when synchros are bad cuz i have had to do it to not get the grind. not saying it fixes the problem or anything but it gets rid of the grinding noise.

damn, i just got done replacing my clutch and tranny on my 93 LS. the clutch was doen a year ago by this one dumbass mechanic. he tightened my clutch cable ALL the way and said there is my brand new clutch. 9 months later it goes. now i am sueing. he swears now that i have a hydraulic clutch in my car??? dumbass. so by the end of that i started grinding while shifting. after my now brand new clutch my first gear goes. i found a used gs tranny for $300 and installed it myself. that sucked. but now when i press the clutch down i feel this little pop. wth is that? feels kinda like my clutch got harder to press down. but your prob could be syncs. and try to get your clutch adjusted if you don't have a hydraulic clucth

Thats why you upshift how its meant to be done - it aint no race car. Even they aren't slamming gears causing internal tranny damage. Shift without using the clutch, thats how fast it should be with the clutch.
