Re: whats your favorite year of caravan

My vote goes for the first Dodge Caravan that doesn't cost more than $1000USD per year in repair costs. So far, my '96 has averaged repair costs of about $1,800 per year. My Total Cost of Ownership is unacceptable. I can't think of "my favorite year" because it doesn't exist, and maybe it never will. |

Re: whats your favorite year of caravan
I am actually anal enough that I save all my receipts for car repairs and parts, so I know what my costs are, my 88 Caravan averages $246.71 a year, my 89 Caravan averages $250.33, my other 89 averages $248.93 a year, and my 1994 averages $623.41 a year. Of course, I've only had the 94 for 2 years, so it hasn't really had time to average out yet. By way of compariosn, in a synchroniticitous number, my '72 Dodge Coronet averages $72.03 a year in repairs. And my wife thinks it'll be cheaper to pay 20 or 30 thousand dollars for a new car. Just shows that, like those who play the lottery, she's bad at math.

Re: whats your favorite year of caravan
My 1998 Dodge Stratus, on the other hand, has averaged out to exactly $1,490 a year so far. I love that little car, but she's eating me alive in repairs.

Re: whats your favorite year of caravan
Just based on looks I'd say the 3rd gens 96-00. As far as reliability, that's a tough one. They all fall apart. That said, my 96 has had it's problems but far less than many. After 207k miles it still runs great with the original tranny. Only parts changed have been the radiator, starter, cluster, drivers window regulator, blower relay, and O2 sensor. Been nursing a leaking A/C for years but it still works. I think living in the southwest with very mild winters is the main reason I haven't seen the "usual" problems.

Re: whats your favorite year of caravan
I like the years when they had rain gutters so I can hook up ladder racks. Other than that I'd have to vote for the newer models solely on style.
