Question Automatic shift knob

Does anyone know the easiest way to get the clip out of the shift knob for an automatic on the 99 firebird?

Re: Automatic shift knob

A) Put on your parking brake after parking on a level surface

B)Put your key in the ignition and turn it forward but do not turn the engine over.

C)Put your foot on the brake pedal and pull the shifter handle down to first or second gear

D)With a pair of needle nose pliers, yank the clip out of the shifter located at the base in the front.

E)Screw or pull off your shifter and replace as necessary.

Re: Automatic shift knob

Thanks. That's pretty much the procedure I was following without any luck gettin the pin out. Trying not to mess up the leather trim around the pin. Hard to get a good grip on the pin. Will try harder.

Does any manufacturer make a chrome "tee" shifter handle for us automatic LT1 guys. I've looked at B&M and Lokar, but haven't seen the exact "tee" handle I want. I found the plunger kind, with the button on the top, like the Camaro's have. Ultimately I'd like a chrome "tee" handle auto shifter knob with a functional button for a future nitrous activation button. Like I said, B&M makes them but it looks like just the top part of the "tee" not the whole "tee" shifter. Anyone, know if this will work? -reply to [email protected], if you know for certain... my internet time is limited.
