how much will I pay for power

Does anybody know how much it would cost to modify a RB25 or 26 engine to put out 400-450 hp? Also, I've seen a lot of power output numbers rated in ps, what is ps and how does it relate to horsepower? I keep thinking about all the physics I've had in school, but ps doesn't ring any bells. Thanks.

It varies a great deal. To make 400-450 out of an RB25DE is an assload. An RB25DET is expensive
but it can be done. An RB26DETT is pretty easy. New ECU, boost control, exhaust and intakes will
give you 393 at the wheels....that's about 460 HP. PS is very similar to HP. The ratio is something
like .963PS = 1HP.

Would going a twin turbo setup on the rb25 be an easier way to get the 400 hp mark?

actually no. I would start with a TD06 25G turbo, power FC ecu, bigger injectors, 3"-3 1/4" exhaust, good pod filter, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, high volume fuel pump, electronic boost controller, 2mm metal head gasket, and a good front mount intercooler.

With the right tuning and about 1.1 bar of boost you should see at least 240kw at the wheels which is about 321bhp. That would put you up to about the 400 hp mark. It has been done here in New Zealand with a 1995 R33 GTS25t. He actually thre 250kw on a dyno that is very tough to get good numbers on. Most R32 GTR's are only throwing around the 200kw mark with a little more boost, exhaust, and pods. Ithink he had around the $10K mark in the car.

Do you want to use 400 to 450 horsepower all the time when driving around or just at those special moments?

If you want to know you've got it when you need it just go a Nitrous Kit on a close to standard slightly modded GTS25T. 300 HP is a doddle to get at the engine so just add a 100HP kit and you have unbeatable bang for buck without losing smoothness or reliabillity (just don't go over 100HP most crappy old holden sixes can take this size kit no problem'o so a much stronger and engineered RB should jog it in). I'm waiting to hear how far the safe margin is above 100HP but, thats quite alot.

Zex, Venom, NOS and OZracing have various kits, they have different strengths deppending on the kit size and application.

Quite satisifing to say to someone you just beat ' Na, its pretty stock mate just exhaust and filter '

Be wary of that claim! The GTS-25T is 40Kilo's HEAVIER than the GTR (NON-Vspec). I have an R32 that is almost 80 kilos lighter pushing just under 500 RWHP and I usually pull low eleven, high tens in the quarter! Now I have 225/50R16...so I do lose a little traction with all that shove going into 225's, but I'm also doing it with four wheels (so I'm on something like 450/50R16's ) If they are going to GUARANTEE it....fine...but somethin doesn't sound right...........

Oh....I guess I should also say....I paid 9g's for my setup...for 10 (which I now realise I should have done!!!) I could have upgraded to 770cc injectors and 264/275 Cams and been pushing in the 600's....darn it all!

the car has run 10.62 @ 127mph!

p.s. it ran out of revs across the line, it needs higher diff gears and it would see 10.30's!

Hmmmm...maybe I'm spinning longer than I thought I really should hit a track that will give me my 60ft times!

Did they do any weight reduction?

GTR2.7, no weight reduction at all. it's a 1993 GTS-T skyline, 2.5 litre, automatic. it was running a full exhaust system (3.5 inch system), D.O.T. approved race tyres at the back. not bad hey? 60ft was 1.6 sec.

Did they have a stock LSD? Or did they put a straight in with a wheelie bar? I don't see how it could be done without slicks.

it has stock LSD, with semi race slicks. they are Department Of Transport Approved. grooved slicks in other words.

GTR2.7L

We have VL commodore turbos - RB30ET with 261rwkw - 350rwhp pulling 11's. 350hp atw on avgas on dyno. It is pulling 11's.

500hp pulling 11s - That just does not seem right to me.

R33 GTSt has LSD. Your car is definately not a benchmark, youve got an 80gk heavier car with 88hp less at the wheels, pulling better times.
Maybe you should let a drag racer drive your car at the strip, and see what time it pulls?

PVL - I recall sub zero saying in the zoom that featured this car, that give them 15K, an engine/tranny/shell in any condition, and they will build u a car to do those times. cant find the mag though!
