2000 Suburban A/C and front end ?'s

I am new to this forum, but the content is great. I am about to purchase a used 2000 1500 Suburban. I have found one, but a few issues thought maybe some of you could help me out. The A/C does not work. You push the button and the dash light blinks 3 times?? Ideas? Also, the front tires are scalloped a bit across the tread pattern. Does this mean a worn front end? Or am I being to picky. i have not finalized the deal, but am getting close. It is LT with 48k on it. I plan to tow a sailboat 6-8 times a year with it that weighs about 4500 lbs on a tandem axle trailor

thanks in advance for any help

Jeff

Re: 2000 Suburban A/C and front end ?'s

Jeff:

I just recently bought a 2000 LT with 42,000 miles on it. I pull a 20 foot center console boat that with the trailer weighs about 3,500 lbs. I am very pleased with the towing performance. I have to travel 175 miles to get to the Chesapeake Bay and cross the Blue Ridge mountains. It really does a good job going over the mountain.

If the tires on the vehicle you are looking at are the original and have 48k on them, then they are probably just nearing the end of their life. If they are newer, then I would have the front end checked before buying. Seller should be willing to go for the cost an alignment check as it isn't very expensive unless there are other problems.

As far as the A/C goes, there are too many possibilities. If it were me, I would take it to a dealer and have it checked before I bought the vehicle. A/C problems on Suburbans can run into some big bucks if both units are having problems. Another bartering point with the seller. You already know it doesn't work, so some expense is obviously going to be necessary.

Hope that helps.

Mark
