Charge Light

I know I dont have a REAL nova but I have a question on my 88 nova. My battery light and break light is on. When I start the car it takes several tries to keep the car running.

I though it wa sthe battery so I changed it. Then, yesterday I started the car, drove down the street and lost all power. So, I thought it was the alternator (it was bad, had it tested and it read at a 10). I changed that. It is still messed up.

The lights remain on and the trouble starting it remains.

Please help, I dont want to put any more money into it than I have to!
