98 626 will not start when engine hot.....HELP
my 98 626 newest problem is that it will not start when hot. when the engine is cool it starts with no problem. once the engine heats up, if i turn it off and try to restart the engine will crank but it will not catch. If i give it a little gas while turning the key it starts and runs until i take my foot off the pedal. I had the fuel pump checked and its fine, the timing was my last problem and $1000+ later i have new hardware down there. the alternator went before that so the new one is less than 8 months old. New battery, belts, plugs and wires. the coil pack also checked out o.k. the fine folks at my local mazda dealer are also stumped. If anyone has any ideas can you please help.

Re: 98 626 will not start when engine hot.....HELP
I have the same problem with my daughters 2000. Doesn't happen all the time. The idle is so low that it doesn't want to run. Tried to troubleshoot yesterday but, of course, would not show it ugly head.

You may try checking the engine coolant temperature(ECT) sensor. When the engine is hot just disconnect the connector from the ECT and measure the resistance of the sensor with a meter. Should be around 3.5K - 4.5 K ohms. When it cools down the resistance will rise to above 15k ohms and maybe even higher. If it doesn't checkout you may want to replace it. They are about $15 at Autozone. Very easy to do yourself. It's the sensor that sits on the block within 2 inches of the oil cap on my '97 4 cylinder. It just unscrews with a socket. You won't lose much coolant so you don't even have to drain the coolant down.
