Does this make me a poser?

First off, I want CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, not
"YES :finger: :finger: :finger: "

Anyway...when I first got into the "car" scene about a year before TFATF came out...I bought a 92 Dodge stealth, because I love the car (looks and Performance) and knew that it had possibilities for Modding.

I know the basics of how cars work, and once, but only once tried installing a Mod myself...Two months and 3,000 dollars later, I paid someone who knew what they were doing. I TRIED to mod my own ride, failed miserably and had to have someone else clean up my mess.

Summary-I'm driving a modded rod that I'm proud of, but not Braggingly so. I have a vague understanding of whats going on under the hood that pushes me forward, but not good enough of an understanding to work on it myself (without disastrous results)

So- DOES THAT MAKE ME A POSER?

and the first person to copy/paste my forbidden answer will get a smack on the face

I would have to say NO because you are man enough to admit you don't fully understand how your car works and you are man enough to pay someone who does know what they are doing to get the job done right. Now if you go around and make people believe you did the work, I would say you then are a poser.

Posers...think they know whats going on, and if they don't make up some quick bullshit answers and foof things up to impress those who know even less. Posers will not pay someone to do the job right, because they know it all...and even if that exhaust is hanging kinda funny it's still cool. Posers also drive their cars and act like they are the shiat. The less impressive the ride is, the more they act like they're the shiat....of course what impresses me and what impresses others can be completely different things.

Gotta admire you mate.........
Cant stand the guys who pick up a ready-tweaked and then pretend to be experts.Anybody who believes "you are what you drive"is deluded. If your'e happy with it, drive it.If people judge on you on it,it's their problem, not yours. All respect to the guys who build their own,but if you can't do it yourself[especially brakes ,steering, suspension etc.]it's no crime to pay someone to do it safely for you.

Dustin, not at all! As has already been said, at least ur not going around saying u did all the work urself! I've got lots of things i plan to do to my car....but I won't be doing hardly any of it myself!

But it's a bit different when ur a girl isn't it. Ppl don't expect u to be able to do it yourself anyway

I am learning how to do bits & pieces, but I'm not a qualified mechanic, and will definately use someone who is, to do what they're trained to do on my car

I agree - it'd be a rather sad world if every car enthusiast who isn't a mechanic, was automatically a poser. I'm glad I'm learning more about my car, and slowly getting to the point where I can do more myself, but it's really only for my own satisfaction, and it's not necessary to justify my having the car.

I admire the fact you don't want to learn any more of those expensive lessons. I'm still too stupid to quit.

No - you are not a poser. You are not trying to convince people you are something you are not.

What kind of Stealth do you have? The ES, RT, RT/TT? They're kick ass cars. I've got a couple of its sister cars so I know how hard they can be for novice mechanics to modify.

I would have to say NO. You were able to admit that you don't know how to work on a car. A real poser walks around bragging about their car and their mods and they don't even know what they are or what they do. Besides if you have an interest in learning how your car works and how to mod it yourself thats great! Also you tried it yourslef, a poser will just take it to the shop and say make it go faster, I want a high flow muffler. And they will try to sound like they know what they are talking about.

I wiork on my car when I can but I have to take it to the sop every once in a while because I don't have the tools or possibly the understanding of how to fix it myslef.

I have an ES, 5 speed manual. Your right, That Engine IS rather..."intimidating" I've stuck to doing the interior mods myself- I'm working on My sound System, and just recently completed converting it to a 2 seater. the drivetrains and such, however, will NOT be benifitting from my Black thumb.

Hehehe...i have done nothing to my car except replace the crappy cardboard DX speakers of mine with some secondhand pioneers. Not even a CD player in my car. Thou i have a giant library of tapes to browse at my parents house! You are not a poser...i know some posers who got daddy to get them an already modded mustang or camaro. They know jack shit about their cars. One doesnt even know how many damn cylinders his mustang has. (Its a GT...v-8) *sigh* If only brains meant money at my school. Seems like its the other way around.

Oh...props for driving a stick. Posers always drive a crap-o-matic.

Depending upon forum, they'd say he was a poser only because they are and would want to cover their own ass!

In a few words: No. You have some idea, but are man enough to admit that you can't do it all by yourself (yet)!

I think I might post a made-up story that is similar to this on other forums, just to test Gang$tarr's philosophy
