Tiburon Owners

Now, Im not here to flame anyone, so dont get upset. First of all my fiance just got an 03 GT, and I was just looking into what kinda stuff there is avail. I have only found that most of you are not very performace oriented. You all bash other car types such as honda, nissan etc. I have read some of these threads to find most of you are asking what a cylinder head is, twin superchargers, etc. If you dont know what a cylinder head is, you should not be trying to make HP. You should start off with a Honda because they ARE much harder to blow up. Also...these are Hyundai's....NOT Ferrari's. Who wants 4-600hp on a front wheel drive car, with so little PERFORMACE parts avail. I love the way the car looks, that is why I had her buy one, not to try to beat supra's. Is any one on this board a tuner, or knows a lot about this car? please respond because I have some questions. Thank you for your time.

Re: Tiburon Owners

First of all, if you really think there are very little performance parts available you need to start looking around.... there is a LOT of stuff available for Tiburons, especially the '03 2.0... not as much for the GT.
That having been said, what would you like to know?

adam is right you know... i think that the tiburon is more of a sports car not much of a race car... and isnt the engine aluminum? if your looking into turbo charging the engine thats a problem already... ryans mr2 probably has more potential than a tiburon and its a 93 and its over 10 years old and a I4... it is my belief simply because it is an iron block, toyota has its own peformans company (trd), rwd, many turbo kits for it (t3/t04a hybrid t67, t78, ct20b, ct26 (stock) and many more, huge after marke basis... not to mention its a mid engine 2 seater which helps the weight distribution...

rob

oh yeah and its on a 2L engine

Like I said..Im not bashing anyone. I just realized that she bought a car with not much potential. I was just wondering how far you can push the V6. I am use to my car with unlimited mods and seeing people put down 555 RWHP on a stock block w/ 130k on it. I just wondering if anyone has just put an intake/exhaust and gotten decent results. Dont get me wrong, i really like the car, its black and I just got some 18" bronze wheels. Does anyone want to buy some stock 17"s? I wasnt planning on doing much to this car, or I would have got the 4 cyl....MUCH easier to turbo. just let me know some little things that you guys have gotten good results from. Thanks for the help guys. BTW...what the hell is this BETA stuff? is an 03 V6 BETA2?

allright, to clear up all misconceptions.

1. every car owner bashes every other car owner. nothing is gonna change as long as people have a passion for their car. leave it at that, the guys asking for help, not an argument(though you did go about it the wrong way).

2.some good forums are
www.newtiburon.com (2003+tibs
www.rdtiburon.com (97-01 tibs)
www.hyundaiperformance.com (largest hyundai site on net, they also have a very good store)
www.hyundaiaftermarket.com (very good archive files)

stores
www.kspec.com
www.shop.hyundaiperformance.com
www.speedstate.com
www.importshark.com
www.speedmotion.com
www.sharkracing.com(some problems with customer service though)
and of course, ebay

3. there are plenty of performance parts available(see above)

4. there are just as many performance parts for the v6 as there are the I$

5. engine codes:

BETA= 97-01 tibs
BETA2= 03 I4 tibs
DELTA= 03 V6 tibs

there are almost no differences between the beta and beta 2, except the beta 2 is MAP based and the beta is MAF. there are also small differences in the engine head.

6. ghetto, your wrong. the v6 is not weak because of the aluminum alone. it is easy to compensate for the softness aas aluminum is heated. the engine was just not designed to handle tons of power. the bottom end bolts are only held in by 12lb.ft. of torque. that is like the screws on your dash board. the threads in the block are not deep enough/not thick enough/ or something. formula 1 engines are made of aluminum.

7. the common limit by most on the v6 is 250whp. i have only seen nextgens 247 dyno, so untill a higher one comes out, i will believe the 250 mark. obviously it wont be exactly that, but somewhere around that. all i know is that the 14 is capable of atleast twice the hp of the v6. skim through some of the posts i made on jared's "we want more" thread and you will see the potential of the i4., i dont feel like posting them all again.

just cuz the engine block is aluminum doesn't mean it can't handle boosted horsepower. so many high horsepower cars have all aluminum engines. for example there is a block for the buick grand nationals thats all aluminum and can withstand 2-3,000hp!!
