Help with what mods

Hello everyone. I am new to this club and to my audi. Pick it up tomorrow, 97 a4 1.8 turbo quattro. My question is what to do first.
I here that putting a chip on these really makes a difference? Which should i get?
I was also thinking of getting altezzas, clear corner lights, and clear side markers, then rims. After that I am not sure what to get? What are some low dollar mods? I am looking for looks and speed, i guess looks first though. Also I know a lot about cars, but not turbos, what do i need to buy to get the psssh turbo sound? A blow off valve or diverter? not sure what the difference is? Do they have a good underdrive pully system for these cars? Any help would be appreciated, and remember I do not know much of turbos or audis, so nothing you say to me will be something i've heard before about these cars. Thank Jeff

...not gonna comment on the altezza's but yeah.. a chip is definitely the place to start... as far as bov's go... audi's dont respond well to bov's b/c they werent made for them... if you really want it.. gfb makes a hybrid bov/diverter that will vent some air for the sound..and recirculate enough to keep the engine happy.. the other way is to get a cone filter and a good diverter valve...that'll make a noise as well..not as loud..but definitely a noise...

Re: Help with what mods

ok so u "say" u know alot about cars but not turbos ???? u dont know the diff between a diverter valve and a BOV, of y turbos make a pshhhhh sound.... u sure u know alot about cars or jus think u do.
1. a diverter valve is a closed loop system, when the throttle body is closed the incoming air gets sent from the intake path back into the air box, so it doesnt come back to the turbo. causing lag and possible turbo damage.
2. a blow off valve is basiclly the same thing except air goes into the atmosphere.
3. blow off valves make the pshhhh sound divert valves well make a slight sound..
4. if ur thinkn of gettin a bov jus for the pshhh sound. vw/audis do not take to bov very well. get a diverter or hybrid bov.
5. i know a lil but bout cars overalll..... untill the day i can build an entire car from scratch... i dont know ALOT about cars.
6. think about what u consider alot

Thanks audi ryder for the site. 1 Prodigy. Yes i know a lot about cars. The fact that i didn't know the difference between a bov and a diverter valve doesnt mean I don;t know alot of other things. I am not going to bother explaining how long i've been working on cars, the electrical in cars, painting them, installing stereos, rebulidng motors and trannies. I asked a question, I didn't ask what your thoughts were on how much I know. Nor do i really care how much you think I know. Next time I post a question, please don't reply, no one needs a-hole comments like yours. oh and get a life, seriously.. and grow up..loser..
