Common problems of 90 Civic DX Sedan?

Hey all I have a 90 Civic DX Sedan, D15B1 with a 5spd. It has all of 74 hp.

Anyways, I was wondering what some of the most common problems of this year of Civic are? I have had some trouble, and I want to start at the most common issues first.

Thanks in Advance,
Alex

Hi Alex...you should have a d15b2, not much more, but 92HP.
However, I have seen a d15z1 in a 91 LX sedan before, and that is a VTEC-E from a 5th gen Civic I believe....so you could for some strange reason have a b1

The igniter tends to fail (recalled by Honda...if yours is original, they'll replace it for free)

3rd gear synchros like to grind...this is true of many Honda trannies, particularly the L3 (the 4g d-series tranny)

Sedans like to get some water in the taillights and trunk..I have had mine since 1994, so I have dealt with these issues, they were recently discussed on this board again in the past few days, but I am too lazy to find it...search for "moisture in trunk" I think to find it.

Other than that it is a great car. Mine has 219K+ miles on the original engine, 2nd tranny (3rd if you count the week I tried to drive it with an HF tranny ), still gets over 30 MPG, and is the only car I own. She does burn a little oil, but we are gonna solve that problem with a little motor called the ZC, and get about ..oh....40 more HP at the same time, heh-heh!

Welcome to the forum

DOHC ZC, I,H,E, urethane bushings and mount inserts, rock chipped hood, some rust, stock steelies, nice comfy Integra seats, and the A/C works! What else could you want from an 18 year old car with 241,000 miles? Working on getting the Si tranny in now
