Too Rich...

Hey all,

I posted this to the Galant Forum, but it doesn't look like they get many replies there. Since this is essentially the same car as the 2000+ Eclipse, I thought I would ask here as well.

I have an AEM cold air intake on my 2002 Galant GTZ. Just prior to
Thanksgiving I had removed the extension pipe and bypass valve to
make it a 'short ram' as they call it. Shortly after doing so, I was
on the expressway and my CE light came on while cruising at 65+ mph. When I got back home I used the datalogger from my Eclipse to decipher the code and it said the car was running too rich in bank 1. I attributed this to the fact that the short ram creates less airflow now that it is under the hood and not down low behind the bumper...plus the
engine heat. I thought that if you remove the positive battery cable
for a few minutes it would reset everything and the ECU would relearn
the new air/fuel measures of the short ram. This seemed to work for
a few days and then the light came back on when I was at higher
speeds again. The last time it tripped the light, I was only going
45 mph. Does anyone know how to get the ECU to regster the new
air/fuel measures with the short ram permanently? Do you need to
remove the negative cable as well, or some other trick????

BTW: Please don't tell me to put the extension piece and bypass valve back in place, I'm not taking the chance of anything happening when snow hits us harder (Chicago). I've already experienced the car wanting to die when it went into a deep puddle waiting in a drive thru. Thanks in
