Engine Problems

I have recently had problems with my 92 Escort, and seek advice. The problem is when i am driving usually for 45-60 mins my car will start to jump loose power, i have to pull over then it stalls. This usually occurs on the motorway. The car jumps and chugs if i pull over and leave it i can usually restart and the car will drive as normal occassionally it still plays up. the car is good on short journeys this problem mainly occurs on longer journeys. I have cleaned the carb, changed plus and HT leads if there is anyone who can help i would be much appreciated. Have thought about getting it plugged in at a ford garage but because its intermitent i dont want to waste good money.

Re: Engine Problems

try checking the coolant, because...... there may be none in it!... otherwise, check the radiatior cap, and see if the psi for the cap is the original, have it checked at a local store they can check the pressure rating and your cap may be bad...... letting too much coolant out of the radiator and into the resivor

Cheers, i will check it out. It definately seems to be a temp. thing today it played up again and after a long journey the temp. gauge was only just off cold, thought it should be higher. Thanks again for your suggestion.

Re: Engine Problems

An engine that suddenly starts to run strange and go cold at the heater usually points to a blown head gasket, if the other stuff doesn't work, try a compression check, and a cooling system pressure check.
