How offen should you change your spark plug wires? I have a 2000 3.0L Ranger with 91000 miles on it. It appears that my gas mileage has just taken a turn for the worse. I just installed new plugs and will see if that makes a difference. I was thinking about putting on a new set of wires. I try to stay on top of preventative maintance yet I don't recall ever hearing anything requarding the replacement interval of plug wires.. Whats the rule of thumb? Replace the wires whenever you replace spark plugs or what? Would new wires help improve my mileage?

According to the manual, the wires should be changed every 60,000 miles along with the plugs(every 30,000 miles for plugs)
How's your distributor cap and rotor? If they havent been changed yet, you might want to do so. Maybe also change the fuel filter too. that might help the milage issue.Good luck |
