Hey everyone. I need some expert advice on what I should do. Right now, my dream is to get an MKIV supra. But, I am very limited on funds.
So my question is do you think I should find an MKIII that needs some repair, fix it up, then sell it and then try for an MKIV? I thought this might be a good idea because for this first car, my friend will be teaching me the in's and outs of a car, its motor, how to fix it, etc. So I thought that maybe it'd be a good idea to get an MKIII that needs some engine work or small repairs and then sell it when I'm finished and then maybe have enough to buy a wrecked MKIV. Please, give me any comments you have. Any guidance or advice you have will be much appreciated. thx Suprachica |

Re: Need some advice on MKIII/MKIV
i dont think you will be able to fix up a mk3 and sell it for as much a mkiv will cost you. i dont think it is a good idea to buy a 'fixer-upper'. You will always be working on it and it will always have problems. you could just get a mk3 and save your money untill you can afford a mkiv. i dont know what kind of buget you are on but maybe you can get a n/a mkiv for now. if i were you i wouldnt buy a fixer upper.

Re: Need some advice on MKIII/MKIV
The mkiii I am looking to buy isnt a fixer-upper. It was meticulously taken care of. The moitor just needs to be rebuilt. The mkiii I am going to get would be about $200 because the kid just wants to get rid of it. He was going to junk it because he doesn't know how much he could get for it and doesnt really care. So if I can get the car for $200, then a rebuild kit for about $500, then I can sell the car for around $3500-$4000 and have a profit of around $3000. I am also thinking that maybe I would keep it since it will be my first car and then maybe get an mkiv a little later.

That sounds all right but you still have to rebuild it...

Re: Need some advice on MKIII/MKIV
tru, but I do have someone who had rebuolt motors before so he would be the one doing it, with me and it would basically be a learning experience for me since I want to kno the ins and outs of a car

well an mkIV would cost you AT LEAST $10,000... and that's for a 93 in reasonable condition. For the MkIII to be worth 4000, it needs to be at least an 89 in perfect condition.
good luck, save your cash.

Re: Need some advice on MKIII/MKIV
yea but the mkiii I would be getting would be a 1992, the 2nd to rarest year ever and would be an great condition, the engine would be rebuilt so that would have no miles or very few and it might have leather and probably targa so thats all what people look for. So I hope it will go for more. And i'm looking to buy a repairable mkiv
