Brake upgrade to 300ZX brakes... will they fit?
I know with my 4-lug setup I have to redrill the rotors but my question is if the calipers will clear the stock 15" alloys?
I can't see how they can but people are doing the swap. Are they getting aftermarket wheels, too? |

I could be wrong, but I'm close to positive you need to get new rims. The stock S14 SE alloys will fit over them...those are the only ones that were offered on the 240sx from the dealership that will clear the hefty z32 rotors...
I reccomend Volk TE37s...but they are pretty expensive and quite a few cars have them...they still look really nice though...

Re: Brake upgrade to 300ZX brakes... will they fit?
Thanks guys ... just FYI I'm on a budget... buying used calipers $50 each and rebuilding them myself... have a friend that sandblasts and powdercoats calipers for $13 each.
Will probably get new rotors tho. And I'm really not too excited about drilling 4 new holes in them. I thought I saw somewhere you can replace the outer axle to convert to 5-lug? Then I could get some el-cheapo wheels that will clear these calipers? |

the conversion isn't the cheapest, but it will definitely be cheaper since 5 lug rims are easier to find used and a little beat up for really cheap...
and you don't have to redrill the rotors...so imo it's money well spent even if you're on a budget...

Re: Brake upgrade to 300ZX brakes... will they fit?
so what parts do I have to replace to go 5-lug?
This may sound stupid but I'm not really confident that 4-lugs will stand up to constant road course abuse. I'm probably wrong but the 5-lug would be a worthy upgrade. I'll probably just go with (gasp) basic black steel rims. Is there a market for selling used 15" alloy wheels? If so, how much could I get? |

Quote:
2.) not sure if the z32 rotors will clear regular solid steel rims... 3.) there is a market depending on their condition...a search on ebay (completed actions) should turn up some idea of what you can expect for them...

Re: Re: Re: Brake upgrade to 300ZX brakes... will they fit?
actually had a friend who broke off a lug nut off his VW while making a REAL hard turn with tires like glue....drove on 3 lugs for couple days
if u got the cash go 5 lug i know a place in southern california that does 5 lug swaps for $1,100 installed including big front brakes...

the 26mm z32 calipers clear most stock s13 se alloys. some have a lip on the inside that gets in the way and will require spacers. some don't have the lip and they clear.
i wouldn't drill the rotors yourself to 5 lug, if you do it wrong you'll weaken them. www.heavythrottle.com sells 300zx brembo rotors drilled to 4x114.3 crossdrilled and/or slotted to your preference. its a bit pricey, though, but better then trying to drill it yourself. o yeah, VW lugs are retarded. they're bolts instead of nuts. weird. then again, VW is retarded to begin with. |
