95 Maxima DTC P1400- EGRC Solenoid and check engine light

Can anyone tell me what can go wrong? I checked the solenoid and founf ok by blowing air and energizing it manually applying voltage from battery. It operates fine and it blocks air flow between two ports when energized and passes air when not energized. I also checked EGR valve by checking its motion and found it was moving when disconnecting the vacuum line from the solenoid. But it stops moving after some initial movements when I reconnect the vacuum line from solenoid. The check engine light is on and I don't know what to check now. Also I found DTC p0325 - Knock Sensor. What to do in this case? Are they related? Please help me.

Re: 95 Maxima DTC P1400- EGRC Solenoid and check engine light

Try this, if the egr solenoid has a 2 wire connector going to it, find out which one is power and then get a normal everyday test light and poke it into the ground side at the plug in while the solenoid is plugged in and the engine idling. What this will do, as the ECU would in most cases supply a ground signal to the egr solenoid, is manually trigger the egr wide open. In most cases the engine should almost stall or at least run very rough while the test light is providing an alternate ground path for the egr solenoid. If it passes this test you may have a restriction (carbon) somewhere in the valve circuit either in the valve itself or the small diameter pressure feedback tube going from the exhaust manifold to the valve. Get the egr code fixed 1st then go for the P0325. Lemme know how you make out AND WARNING!!! Make sure you ground the right wire with that test light otherwise bad things could happen!

Re: 95 Maxima DTC P1400- EGRC Solenoid and check engine light

Hi, I have a 95 5-speed and have been getting the 105 code for the EGRC solenoid valve. Where did you find yours? I could never, for the life of me, find mine. I found the EVAP canister control solenoid valve and my Chilton manual shows a diagram that the EGRC solenoid is next to it but I don't see it. Can you help me? Thanks.

jmd102,

If I understand your procedure correctly, I'm suppose to find the +12v lead in the connector while its connected and while the car is running. Using a light tester, poke the +12v lead and ground the tester to say the negative pole of the battery?

You will find the solenoid (Green colored casing) near the automatic transmission dipstick. Anyway, I tookout the intake rubber pipe from near the butter-fly and spray cleaned the intake, it was really dirty and clogged. Then put the rubber pipe back and turn on the engine, the check-engine light is gone! Thanks for the help I got from the members of this forum.

I have a 1995 maxima with the same problem. The rubber pipe you are referring to, is it a small rubber hose connected to the throttle body? Also, is the solenoid mounted to a bracket near the automatic transmission dip stick with 3 small hoses connected to it?
