Ok thanks for your reply, you saved me a 100 dollars. Do you know of any universal mufflers that are good that could fit on my Saturn.

Re: APC Mufflers

yes that is what i have heard from some people that if your cat-back system is great your muffler should be able to give you 7 hp.

Re: APC Mufflers

especially on a saturn.
lower exhaust flow will yield lower power gains.
obviously upgrading the exhaust on a ferrari will yield better gains than upgrading a saturn.
Intake is just as important though. you should get a K&N filter at a minimum.

Re: APC Mufflers

You have a cat-back system already installed or will that come later? If you don't have it installed don't expect much gain out of just getting a new muffler.

Toucan isn't much better than APC....both sacirfice quality for quantity...for reference, Ractive is the same way...They are companies whose products are more about cashing in on the import craze than putting out quality. if you want a quality product, say away from all 3 companies. I would personally pay a little more for a better quality product.

Apexi, 5zigen, Blitz, HKS, and Tanabe all make good universal mufflers. Skunk2, Veilside, Injen, and STR make decent universal ones as well. I know some "shops" don't carry these universal mufflers, only there "cat-back systems", but they are made. Either that or they'll tell you, "just pick from what we have." I personally don't like the wide tips, like 125mm or up tips (which 5Zigen has alot of). I tend to perfer mufflers with tips in the 90-115mm range. Stay away from those "mass produced brands" that you seem to be able to find on every corner at every store, ones like APC, Ractive, and Toucan. Also, when you build your custom cat-back piping, don't forget to have a resonator installed as well. It will help cut down on noise, and the resulting tone will actually end up more desirable and less annoying. A lot of the cat-back manufactors, including DC Sports, use a 15" or so resonator on their cat-back systems. If you have problems finding the brands I mentioned above the following site, Options Auto Salon, carries some of the universal mufflers by these brands...here's a link to that part of their site.

I hope this helps you out.
