Re: help with 91 tpi

um, why are you holding the pedal to the floor???? thats how you work a carburated car, but on a fuel injected car, its kinda anti productive. the computer is programed to account for cold start enrichment on a speed density system like the one on your 91. and the IAC controls the air to make sure you have the right air fuel ratio. i would replace the coolant temp sensor, (i guess thats what you ment by sending unit.) because those are known to go bad. the computers on those cars are pretty reliable, i dont know of them being replaced very often. but you might have a bad one. but id go with the sensor first. also, im a bit confused as to how you "flooded" the engine with a batch fire fuel injection system. sounds more like you have a weak ignition somewhere, weak coil, carboned up cap and rotor, burned through wires or something like that. but now im rambling, but yes, replace the sensor, you didnt mention what the actual temp is where you are. but if the coolant temp tells your computer that its - 36 degrees outside, its going to richen the hell out of the mixture to try and get it to fire and warm up. and your ignition just may not be strong enough to light the pig rich mix. fix the sensor, if you still have problems, put in a more powerful coil or ignition box. coils are only like 50 bucks, so it could be an easy fix. good luck.

Re: help with 91 tpi

oh and i didnt explain why holding the pedal down is anti productive. on a fuel injected car, the pedal does not control the fuel. press the pedal as hard as you want, your not spraying any more fuel, your opening the butterfly valves on the front of the throttle body. letting more air in. thats what the pedal controls, the ammount of air the engine has access to. so if your engine is trying to richen the start up mixture because its cold, and your letting more air in, it has to add MORE fuel to counter the increase in air that you are letting in with your led foot making it even harder to start the engine, not easier.
