Performance Parts
I have just inherited a 1989 eighty-eight. I would like to beef up the engine because the stock hp just isnt enough. So if someone on here could please help me in finding performance part, because I'm having a hard time finding any. thanx

Re: Performance Parts
Well, I have an 89 coupe Eighty-Eight. If you wanted to take on the challenge, you could make the engine a turbo by buying a grand-national turbo charger and do the necessary engine work and tranny work, not to mentiona new intake and exhaust; though you would have to find a different intercooler as they dont make the intercooler from the grand national anymore.

I don't plan on doing this for a while, but I do plan on doing it. I have to work on college first, THEN I can worry about my car.

Are there any NON turbo mods you can do to this motor to gain some power? I kept up with a mid 90's crown vic cab in my 88 olds 88, but i couldnt pass the bastard... this was with OD off and the go pedal FLOORED! (AC off of course) I NEED MORE GO! with out breaking my bank...

i'm interested in mods for a 90 olds 88'. i too have been trying to find some kind of performance parts without much luck. so really it seems to gain power you basically have to build an entirely new olds, and from what ive read above thats sounds real complicated.

Hey Guys.
I was also at one time looking for performance parts for my olds. What I found worked good without breaking the bank... for starters, on the older style olds there is no o2 sensor on the Cat. Cut it out. It made a huge difference especially out of the hole. Not too long ago, I also tried going straightpipe with it for fun and actually lost power. 3800s seem to really like just enough back pressure. Look for a dynomax dual outlet camaro muffler. it gets rid of that annoying v6 rapping sound and gives you this awesome sounding rumble and a hella lot more passing and high rpm power. On top of that, Order Ractive Cone Filter and get a 3" piece of piping and build yourself a cold air intake and remove the factory airbox. this made a HUGE difference. With all that done, Im keeping with my buddy's 04 grand am GT. Pisses him off something fierce. lol. I have a 4 door with a bunch of stereo in the back too. Im thinking superchip is coming soon too. I will let you know. Happy motoring! |

1999 olds 88
I am just wondering what are the major differences between a 88 and an LSS powertrain. Obviously the blower, but are there a lot of other changes to the engine and transmition?

Re: Performance Parts
My buddy has an unknown flomaster exhast and he can get it to me for 20 bucks. I dont know if it'll work. I need to find out. Do you think that'll do nething? I am also interested in doing this kinda stupid things to my 1990 olds eighty eight royale.
Neone else notice with the auto tranny it shifts from first to second at 45 mph and 2nd to third at like 75 mph. Craaaazy stuff. Noone believes me. Neone know the topspeed of this mofo?? |
