D15B1 vs. D15B2...
Hey guys...
I have a good B1 in my smashed STD that is one of the best engines I've ever seen...and a "dying" B2 in my Si that I am driving...I'm contemplating pulling the B2 out of the Si and putting the B1 in...leaving the Si distributor and the Si MPFI...I only have $1000.00 to work with, and pulling an engine is wayyyy beyond me...so buying another engine is outta reach... I guess what I am asking, is what am I really sacrificing here? I've been told that a d15 with the Si distributor and the Si MPFI can actually end up making more HP than the stock A6...is there any truth to that? ![]() Jason |

Re: D15B1 vs. D15B2...
I'd actually be interested in knowing the answer to this too - i take it since you have a STD like me, the D15B1 is the wimpy 70-ish HP1.5L engine?
so what exactly would it take to beef it up a bit, to at least be more like the 100-ish HP 1.5L engine? I have no idea what the differences are. |

swap the block.
use the A6 head, or atleast the A6 cam, and you will basically have a "d15a6" |

Re: D15B1 vs. D15B2...
The thing that makes the b1 and b2 different are fuel maps in the ecu and the intake manifolds. I think thats it but i'm not sure.

the blocks are essential identical, so using a d15b1 block with a d16a6 head/cam/intake will basically give you a d15b7, or around 105hp. |

Re: D15B1 vs. D15B2...
interesting
i just did a valve job on my b1, so i'd like to stick with the head, but it sounds like a relatively easy/cheap way to get a little more oomph would be to swap the intake manifold from a junkyard engine so i guess i might as well go straight to a SI manifold (rather than a dx) and do the MPFI conversion? I would expect that since the mpfi is supposed to help the dx a bit, it'd REALLY help a wimpy std. |

swaping a motor is not as hard as it sounds. if you take your time and have everything ready you could start on a saturday and have it running by sunday.
the right tools will make or break you on this... when I put my B16 in the hardest part was getting the axles out without an impact wrench... IE: impossible ! so I broke one hehe

Would a B16A2/3 slip into my engine bay with minimal problems?
What about a D16Z6? as a second choice? Just curious...thanks J |

If you search there are many posts about those same motors into a 4th gen.

Re: D15B1 vs. D15B2...
look in the faq at the top of the list
i really think the way to go is a y8 - newer engine, but still a bolt in the z6 is similar but a bit older, any B series is gonna require a mount kit (more money) |

A6's are pretty rare around here too... I can keep an eye out for one... I do Have one in peices in my garage... but i'm gonna need some peices of it to (hopefully) Fix the Civic. if not I'll have two and probably a D15B in the civic.
As for helping for the swap I'll see what I can spare for time... the downside is I don't drink
