Heater Fan or Switch?
My heater fan only works on speeds 3 & 4 in my '89 Camry. Is this a common problem? It's raining and I don't want to start testing everything if someone knows that this is usually the switch/motor. Thanks!

Re: Heater Fan or Switch?
Dennis and kohokoho,
You need a new "blower motor resistor". It should be located under the dash on the passenger side near the blower itself. Follow the wiring from the blower motor. It will have a wiring connector on it and after disconnecting that, it should be held in by 1 (possibly 2) screws. The back side of it will look like something with 4 springs in a diamond shape; 2 of the springs will be broken. Take it out and take it to your closest dealer. This is a dealer only part and should cost about $50-$60. This is an easy do-it-yourself repair. Good luck. Mike |

Thanks for the info Mike, I have a 88 Camry and just removed and found the coil on the resistor is broken. The dealer is closed this weekend, are resistor like this available from auto parts store and/or the coil be replaced?

Re: Heater Fan or Switch?
Mike E,
This may help: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Blower.shtml Personally, I would just go to Toyota and buy a new one, but if you feel like trying something like this, it's your time. They aren't that expensive, so that's why I would just go to the dealer and bite the bullet. Good luck. Mike |

I went to the auto wreckers today and found one in good shape, checked out 12 cars and all of them have broken coils but 1, looks like a common problem. The dealer wanted $110 cdn and the wrecker price was $35 cdn with 5 month warranty. Thanks for your help.
