Many sport bikes dont live long lives unless they are lucky enough to have owners that dont trash them.
Every once in a while an old skool in good shape will show up. To answer your question, yes, sometimes 'old' sport bikes in good condition are rare.

I'm not sure what you mean by "rare" if you mean, hard to find rare, or if you mean worth more rare. If your looking at an old bike, dont let some sales guy push you into and 87 because he says it rare and worth a lot. VERY doubtful an 87 hurricane is valuable rare. Always reference Kelly Blue book and other like bikes for sale
