Aftermarket parts
I was sitting here looking at some websites, and noticed that except for SAS there's not a whole lot of new stuff coming out. So I started wondering what kind of new aftermarket parts people would like to see produced. Not just limited to resin, but also p/e or turned alum. stuff.

Re: Aftermarket parts
Welcome to AF too!
![]() Some aftermarket parts I wish I could get: -very thin photoetch grid (if you know it, the same as the bits included in Fujimi's Lancia Stratos 1/24) in dimensions that could fit (for example...) the rear ot a Tamiya's Ferrari Modena (see what I mean... Stradale boys?) ![]() -Sets of resin (+other) openable doors. It exists for rally cars, made by Renaissance, such as P.205, S.Impreza, T.Corolla, M.Lancer or C.Xara; But I would have liked to see the same job for such cars as the Ferrari Modenas of Tamiya, or Porsche 911, etc... ![]() -Sets of resin motors for curbside kits as Porsche 911, or Nissan GTR... ![]() -Conversion sets for Porsche 911 (again!) to transform it to Turbo, or last GT3. I know it might be impossible, as the size of the front ligts is not the same: they're wider... ![]() -Conversion set for Fujimi Diablo to make a SE30 Jota (wheels, bumpers,etc...) ![]() I know I can keep on dreaming!... I'd rather try to improve myself to do some scratchbuilding...

Re: Aftermarket parts
1. More colors/finished
2. in scale leather (glove leather ultra thin alcantra) 3. RESIN ENGINES for curbside kits!!!!! 4. realistic looking Nitrous tanks, Tachometers with shift lights 5. Realistic looking interior stereo components like custom subs, heads up displays, engine management systems, etc 6. more trans kits for door openings for popular vehicles (civic, integra, porsche GT3, SKyline, etc) more sizes of aluminum tubing, thin, pliable small guage metal wires for brake and fuel lines, etc.. |

Re: Aftermarket parts
A mugen bodykit for Fujimi 96-98 civic. I'm not normally a fan of bodykits, but I love the mugen one. Also an SIR II front lip would go down well.
Some nice acurate 15" rims would be nice too. |

Opening door kits would be awesome. All you would really need is a one piece inner door shell with the interior panel detail and hinge assembly. You just cut open the door and attach the cut out door skin to the resin inner shell. Nice
Not sure how many modelers out there would be up for tackling this kind of modification though so might be too small a market tomake it viable One thing I'd love to be able to get is replacement windows made out of some nice thin plastic rather than the usual wobbly thick stuff you see in a few kits. Kinda ruins the realism of some models a bit. More photetched emblems, scripts and badges for older cars, particularly US ones, would be good too. Molded in emblems look poor no matter how neatly you try to detail them after paint. And pre-cut window masks. I just did the masks to paint my Fujimi Tommy Kaira M30 windows...what a pain in the ass

I've found that there is pretty much everything out there that I want. The only problem is none of it is together, so I have to order oil coolers, tachometers, nitrous bottles and American photo etch from one place; hood pins, Japanese photo etch, paint, velocity stacks from another place; carbon fiber decals and motorsports photoetch from another; seats and miscelaneous hard to find bits from yet another place; and if I want a body kit I gotta go somewhere else.
What someone, somewhere, anywhere, needs to do is get all this stuff together and sell it and ship it from one place. So I only have to make one order and one shipping charge instead of 5. I know, I know, that's an enormous inventory and enormous amount of work to keep up with all the manufacturers and distributors (where applicable) and some smaller detail makers aren't distributed at all. But still. While we're dreaming....

here are the test shot of the Focus, which look very good, but I wonder of they could've gotten that wing any bigger
BTW, there are just test shots, there bare plastic. they mold them that ugly blue just too see if there are any flaws, The finished kit you buy will be white |

For the detailed subs, y'all missed your chance. Machined Aluminum Specialties made some awesome multimedia subs. Yes, baskets and magnets. Sadly, MAS has closed up shop. I think Mark still sells a few things at shows.
A number of other things on the lists I'm seeing are easy to do, and others are available. Gathering the aftermarket stuff under one roof would require a huge inventory, and the parts would end up costing more because of it. Then, people would go directly to the maker to "save money", even with the difference in shipping costs. Happens all the time in business. Outside of that, notes are being taken! The biggest hurdle to the "I wish some made a resin *******!" is someone needs to master it. If you do an open door conversion, get friendly with a resin caster about getting it cast for others. Working together solves a number of problems. Photoetching is a different story, and there is a lot of work involved there too. For aluminum stuff, Arrowhead Aluminum Accessories (www.arrowheadaluminum.com) does custom work, and might even add the item to it's stock list. Just tell Duane what you want (with dimensions, drawings if possible), and buy the finished parts from him. Just some of my thoughts. Tim D. http://modelcartech.com |

Re: Aftermarket parts
I'm hoping F1 Specialties release a Perfect Parts detail set for the Williams FW14B at some stage. A brake disk set for it too. Their MP4/6 and 641/2 sets are the ultimate.
