how much hp does a 1st gen eclipse GSX w/ stock suspension and good tires need to run high 12's. Also its a 5speed. I got some money to blow and i want to beat my friends new M3.

Also while im asking, how much do these cars weigh?

Re: 12's

Well considering that i had no reply on my post about the weight i wouldnt be able to tell you the weight. Im guessing it over 3,000 pounds and close to 4000 if not more. I could be wrong so correct me. To make it run lows 12s you need to start with the basics, BOV, Exhaust, Intercooler, Intake, Boost controller, suspension, Emptying out your glove compartment and trunk of that spare tire. I could definately say you could have a good chance with an M3. It also depends on your driving skill. I have seen a few eclipses smoke an M3.

Re: 12's

i know how to do it, just need like a hp # to work for, there are no tracks near me. Just street. The car already handles awsome and has all the traction i need. I just dont know how much power i need to beat this M3, the M3 has 325hp stock plus hes got exchaust and a chip and cai. I figure about 300hp for 12's?

Re: Re: 12's

just do all supporting mods,(3' turbo back exhaust, intake, boost controller, upper i\c piping, fuel pump and regulator, a\f controller ect..) boost about 18psi -20 and you should be fine ..
as for fourg6397gst it is a estimate on what it will cost i think

You need roughly 300 whp for mid-high 12s. I have seen poeple run 12s on a 1g with stock turbo/injectors/IC, with just a full exhaust, K&N filter, boost controller, 190 pump, and a slightly hacked mas to push off fuel cut. You will need race gas (at least 110-112 octane, 116/117 prefered), and 22-24 psi boost. Should cost no more than 1000 dollars. Most of that is about 700 for exhaust. You can also do MAFt/datalogger/injectors to push off fuel and get rid off the shyte 1g MAS altogether, and have tuning capabilities.

To run 12s on pump gas, you will need a turbo upgrade, EVO16g will be the absolute minimum and you will have to have a pretty good grasp on tuning. If you go to the POS site in my sig, and look at Joe Gs car, he ran damn near 11s on that mod list, and would surely do 12s on pump, with a 16g. FMIC is the key. Substitute the DSMlink for the MAFt/AFC and datalogger. You will want 660cc injectors.

There is more to it than this, like clutch eventually, upgraded center diff if you launch hard, etc. But this is a general guide, and is what you should be thinking about. In the first example (race gas) I have seen poeple run mid 12s for less than 4000 dollars including the cost of the car. But if you are going to be racing your buddy on the street (no race gas), it wont be easy. In the videos of my car on the POS site or in the thread I started here a few days ago, I was basically on a fairly stock setup, with a stock 1g turbo (14b). In those vids I was running 13.4ish, but I got down to 13.1, and with good driving could have just hit 12s on pump gas. Mods were 2g car, AFC, 190, boost control, datalogger, etc. Stock injectors, intercooler, etc. The same setup with a FMIC would have hit 12s on pump gas easily, even with the small 14b turbo. Intercooling is the absolute KEY to pump gas power. If anyone is interested in this concept, I can elaborate further. But for now, its already getting long winded. Perhaps I'll add it later.

Stock 2g GSX weighs roughly 3200 pounds (mine was ~3380) with me in it), 1g is slightly less, but no lighter than 3100. The spare tire and jack are worth 30-40 pounds.

please do... i just got a GReddy type 24 FMIC installed... still on a t-25 and the guy that is my mechanic said that i should be able to run 12's, although i've never been in a "sanctioned" race with proper timing facilities. I did notice a fairly large increase in power and it feels like a more solid run...

A t25 wont run a 12, at least not on a normal weight DSM. If I put one on my 2100 poud escort... I managed a 13.7 on ym t25, and with fuel control I imagine I could have done slightly better, perhaps a 13.5. I know of one person that claims to have run a 12 on a t25, but I jsut dont believe it. I can only support enough airflow for about 250 whp, and that just isnt enough to get a 3200 pound vehicle in the 12s...

You could have 400 horsepower and get 12's....which isnt as good as it could be...go with one the small/cheap setup's some smart guy like gsxracer gave you and practice....if you dont want to practice, then put a bit more money into it.

I Been practicing with my friends honda for about 2 months...

I now currently own a 2g car. With the practice i got before, my best time was 13.8 with only a boost controller....

i just looked up the weights and ...<sigh>... i guess my spyder's stock curb weight is 3142 according to 1000 AAQ , but i do have a lot of other mods, that said, i must give it up to the local dsm god, so i guess ur right ...<sigh>... i still smoke lots of locals though, and a new 18g is on the way...

why an 18g? for a little more you can get a 20 or pte. They are much better for the money and have more power. I have heard very shitty things about the 18. Go with a PTE>
