Question Tachometer Noise?

My 2003 Yukon XL started making a noise in the dash area. It sounds like a noise I use to have with and old 79 pickup of mine when the speedometer cable went bad. Currently the noise occurs when in park so I don't think it would be the speedometer cable. When I give it just a little gas it seems to make the noise a little louder, then when I give it more gas, it appears to go away. I'm wondering if it could be the tachometer cable making the noise if there is a tach cable. Does anyone know if there even is a tach cable or is this all coputerized now?

the IPC will have to be replaced to get rid of the noise, I've done a few already.

Yes, we are currently long-term test driving an '03 Yukon that appears to have a "growling" noise coming from the cluster. It's directly related to the speedo, and sounds sort of like the meshing of plastic gears if that makes any sense to anyone. Also, when you turn the truck off and all the needles sweep to zero, you are greeted to the same noise from each and every gauge. Not loud or anything, be certainly noticable. We also have two 2004 Chevy trucks at work that do the same thing, less than 2500 miles on either of them. Wonder if it's just "normal"???

The grinding from the IPC, instrument panel cluster, has gotten so bad that I have taken my '03 Denali back to the dealer. They tell me the gears in the IPC, having to do with the tachometer, need to be rebuilt.
They told me this is a common problem, and if I want a new IPC cluster, they are on back order. I was told that either way, rebuilt or new, I would have to drop the car off on a monday, and leave it at the dealer for 5 to 7 business day untill the IPC is rebuilt or they can get a new IPC with the same odometer reading.

Has anyone had this problem before? Leaving the vehical for 5-7 days is not reasonable.

Okay, so I wasn't just hearing things; assuming that the IPC does get replaced, one would hope--if not expect--that GM will reset the odometer to the correct mileage rather than go the cheap route and slap an odometer correction sticker on the door jamb. I mention this because when the IPC on my Acura was replaced, the dealer did just that--slap a sticker, saying that it was not possible to reprogram the odometer on it.
