Well lets see BMW's are RWD VW's are FWD the only AWD vw is the R32 witch is a nice car and with some upgrades can go fast... EX. The HPA 0-60 in 3.2 sec... http://www.hpamotorsports.com/. Now the phaeton is another AWD car but it’s an upper class car that is SLOW for the engine it has in it. When VW makes the Concept R its showing now.. That should be RWD or AWD that is when BMW should look back.. And in motor racing in Japan right now the W12 racecar seems to be doing ok for racing only a few years. Both BMW and VW have been around for a long time but from the start BMW has been in all kinds of racing worlds, only now VW is getting into. I hope this has helped you...

R32 not the only AWD VW

i have to let you know that the R32 is not the only AWD Volkswagen. VW offers the Passat with 4-Motion. Which is aka awd. Also the new Touareg is awd.

Phaeton has a higher quality interior than the BMW. In W12 6.0 litre guise it was tested by Jeremy Clarkson at speeds of up to 201mph.

VW have always had AWD high performance cars the Golf Rally (Early '90s) had up to 210bhp and run the Lancia Integrale close.

With the exception of the M3 & M5 VW have a car that has similar performance to the BMW.

R32 - 240bhp v 330 - 231bhp.
Touareg V10TDI - 313Bhp V X5 4.6iS - 340bhp

Re: BMW vs. Volkswagen

The BMW AWD system (X-Drive) is the best. My X5 does great here in New England. I have to say that i would never spend ($$) for a Phaeton - it looks like a Passat from a glance. I also think that the Bimmers interior is at a higher quality. The BMW 760 is a rocket, if you can afford it. I would go with the BMW 7 series or even a nice 5 series over the Phaeton. Has anyone seen one of the road yet?

[quote=BMW_4.4i]The BMW AWD system (X-Drive) is the best.

VAG have been doing Quattro systems for years, BMW just upgraded their primitive 4x4 to x-drive but in a recent head-to-head test with the V8 Touareg the X5 V* still lagged behind especially in built quality.

The 7 series cannot match the interior of the Phaeton although the Phaeton is not selling well the Touareg is the new undisputed King especially in V10 TDI trim.
