Autopage vs. Viper
Hi All,
I recently purchased an '03 Nissan Xterra. I want to install an alarm with a Pager and Remote starter. The two top choices right now seem to be the Autopage RF850LCD and the Viper 791XV. I previously had the Autopage RF750LCD installed in my Altima and haven't had any problems with it although I wish the range could be better. It runs on AM and advertises near ¼ mile range. The new 850LCD advertises ½ mile range using FM which I imagine is less susceptible to interference. Am I wrong? The new remote does seem nicer. Then we have the Viper model. This model advertises a shorter range (about the same as my 750 from Autopage ¼ mile.) Additionally, Viper has always seemed to have a larger following which would lead me to believe it's a better system. Assuming the 'build quality' for both alarms is identical, Range is probably the most important feature to me. Installation quality is also very important and I trust both shops that I can choose from to do quality work. I cant expect either of them to be impartial and I cannot find any dealers who carry both. What's your opinion, which would you choose or is there a better option I am not considering? Autopage RF850 LCD Information: http://autopageusa.com/Products/2Way/rs850.htm Viper 791xv Information: http://www.drdetailshop.com/V791XV.htm Many Thanks, Rob Smith [email protected] |

Actually, I have a lot of experience with these plus the COmpustart. I personally like the Viper stuff myself. You might be able to save some $$ if you look for a Python, Sidewinder, Valet, or Hornet model. They are exactly the same thing, just different names. THe Valet and Hornet models do not have lifetime warranties but do not let that scare you. Trust me, the brains and controls are exactly the same. |
