Impreza engine swaps
I'm wondering if i were to get a older model AWD Impreza, could i buy a EJ25 or EJ20t or even something STI related engine and would it bolt right into the mounts? Or would it cost too much for customizing and be better off buying the wrx or 2.5rs? Also is there such a thing as an old wrx or sti engine with a six speed trans. These are the sugarplums I dream about. Hehe.

Scoobies have a high interchangability rate. Having said that I think the link below would answer your questions alot better than I.

Re: Impreza engine swaps
i just bought a 94 front wd impreza 1.8 and i was wondering the same thing. From what most people have said in this and other forums is that the ej engines will go into any mounts or trannys that other ej engines come with. from what ive heard though, you will have a problem with crossmembers but those are not even that big of a deal.

Re: Impreza engine swaps
The crossmember is just the small part of the swap.
The biggest hassel is the wiring harness I've done a few swapps so let me know if any one needs help. Gen Murofushi |

Re: Impreza engine swaps
Mechanically, a subaru is a pretty easy swap. wiring...is on the verge of nightmare. especially if you opt to do it the 'right' way and rewire all the underdash harnesses.

Re: Impreza engine swaps
Hey Leo. If the wiring is done right, than it is worth the effort. It usually takes about 24 to 40 houres of work just in the wiring depending if u have a GC8 or a GDA and what year the motor and harness is.
I've worked for subaru in Japan for a few years and race my GC8 in Japan and in us so I've been around the block on subarus for awhile so let me know of any questions u may have. |

Re: Impreza engine swaps
thanks Gen. right now Im working on my civic, once thats done I will start working with the subaru engine, although to tell you the truth the original reason I bought it was to swap it into an 86 VW Vanagon. I have the vanagon too but for a while I thought I should do an older impreza instead. I dont know much if nothing about subaru's and thats why Im kinda thinking hard about it. But Im gonna put your name in my buddy list in case I do decide to do it I will get in contact with you for any help I need. Thanks again.

Re: Impreza engine swaps
I inherited my father's Subaru and the motor is pretty beat and not to mention SLOW!!!!So I wanted to know about doing a swap in it. How hard it is to swap in an ej20t into a 93 Subaru impreza L, and how much would the total swap cost. I heard it is a wiring nightmare. Would I have to change out the drivetrain for this swap. Can anyone provide some insight on this particular subject. I would appreciate info from someone who has actually done it. But all info will be helpful.
