Re: best way to learn your engine

I would say get a factory repair manual from www.helminc.com then go to the junkyard & get an engine/trans as close to yours as you can find. Also check out www.howstuffworks.com to see what makes it work. Engines are a millions times easiers to mess than a manual or auto trans, unless your a trans specialist.

1 thing you will need is a quality torque wrench - proper torque is VERY important when it comes to internals.

Insides of a honda manual trans:

I can't find a link for an auto internal, but its much more complicated. The repair manual will show you how to take apart, remove, rebuild, etc. properly for everything in/out/under your car

Re: best way to learn your engine

if you have time, all u have to do, is get a junk engine, and take it apart, and learn how to put it back together again. that was my first task in mechanic school. even though most people's engines didnt run, because they missed awhole mess of steps, but they learned what the peaices do though^^

Re: best way to learn your engine

I'll sell ya a toyota 1.5L(i think) got a busted rod - $75 + shipping. Shit you could even get a junk lawnmower engine to start with. Engines are engines, computers and sensors is what fucks things up.

Re: best way to learn your engine

my suggestion is picking up a 91-93 integra engine, because theres only small diffrences. I bought one from a junkyard, with engine+transmission for $300. but if worst came to worst, u can use the block on your car. or sell the injectors to anybody with a b156 or b16b

Re: best way to learn your engine

bought an engine (ls) wiht the intention of rebulding it with some nice internals...havent finished, and i learned alot, i havten put it together yet but i learned alot just by taking it apart. engine should be around 3-4 hundred, if you get a seazed eninge it will be less

Re: best way to learn your engine

btw, older b18b's have a smaller intake manifold and fuel rail. there power is a bit less then 91-00 integras do to that and a couple other stuff. besides, if u find a 91-93 b18b, they are known for having short piston ring life. so if you plan on investing money on it, pistonrings are probably gonna be the first 130 bucks^^
