Headlight vibrates when in up position

My 2000 TransAm has a curiious problem...

When you drive with the headlight on or in the up position, the left one vibrates when you hit a bump. I wiggled each one while in the up position and sure enough the left one has some "play" in the arm.

Do these lights have a "stop" that they hit in order to hold them in a steady position or do they only rely on the stiffness of the arm that holds them up?

they should have a cable underneath them and there is a stop next to the motor that the linkage hits so check all that and all the mouting screws there are a few

Okay, I went and looked again. I found the "stop" on the motor itself, it rams right into it like it should, but I cannot find the cable (on either side). Is the cable what holds it steady? The passenger side is very stiff, but the driver's side assembly is loose in the linkage right where it hinges, not over a 1/16th inch of play, but enough to be a nuisance and cause the vibration. Should this linkage be very "stiff" or should it hit a "stop" somewhere other than the one on the motor?

Pull the linkage off and whack it with a hammer at the rivet. Should be somewhat snug but it probably vibrates because the POS plastic gear in the headlight motor is probably going bad a common problem with these cars.

Go to www.camaroz28.com and to the message board. Then do a search for 'headlight fix' or 'brent94z' .

This guy has a web page telling you how to fix it without opening the motor and even sells bronze gears to replace the crappy plastic gear if you go that route.

yes it could be the gear if it is you'll know about it soon it will make a grindeing noise and the cable should be attached under neath the headlight it like a scondary stop

Just to give everyone an update. I replaced the arm that holds that head light up and it is now fixed. Once I got the old one off, it had a tremendous amount of "play" in it and the new one didn't. Now it is rock solid.
