maxima stalls untill warmed up
Help! my car stalls when I put in gear (automatic) untill the temp reaches 1/2 way on the guage. It idles fine while I'm waiting for it to warm up. It happens if it sits for long period of time, 1st morning start;
after 8 hr work shift. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Re: maxima stalls untill warmed up
I'd start by cleaning out the throttle body and setting minimum air (base idle) assuming you have no trouble codes stored. Make sure snorkel connections etc are tight. Will it stall if you 2 foot it cold??
You could also have idle speed motor problems, but start with a good cleaning and WATCH the MAF if equipped. Don't be soaking that with cleaner....might be a bad thing. A good shop manual will also give you resistance tests you can make on the IAC motor, could have a bum circuit. Seen this on Mazdas many times (4 cyl models). Nissan somewhat similar. Anyhow let us know how you make out! Mark |

Does anyone know the outcome or solution to this problem?
I have been experiencing problems occurring over the last year or so with my '94 (VG30DE) with stalling during the warm-up period. I've short-circuited/grounded the VTC selenoid (because it was knocking terribly - I saw the grounding solution on another forum), replaced the water temp sensor and the thermostat - in that order. Seems like the thermostat took care of most of the stalling problem (like it must have been sticking open). Except that now I have this problem where it stalls whenever I put it into gear and try to start the car moving. Reverse seems to cause the problem more than drive, although it will happen for both. Once I can get the car rolling, it runs fine. Once the car warms up it runs fine and the stalling doesn't seem to be as severe although it will still occur for reverse. Any clues? |

Last weekend, I checked the computer code in my OBD through the manual process described in the Haynes repair manual. It showed the code for the knock sensor, although my CEL light never came on. This is a '94 so still using OBD1.
So, I cleared the code and since then I have not had any problems with stalling. Does this make sense to anyone? |
