Need Help

I HAVE A 84 RABBIT AND WHEN I TURN ON THE HEADLIGHTS THE VOLTMETER SHOWS THAT ITS NOT CHARGING WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSEK

my 84 does the same thing.
i am still working on it. i will let you know. check the battery cables and posibly replace them all.. cause they are old and corroded. try getting a stronger battery and maybe even stronger alt. that is the road i am looking at doing. but it IS weird. seems to run and not drain battery, but there isn't enough power for all. i turn on my lights , the engine looses power and the volt goes down. then the defrost dims the lights and more. on and on...

bad ground at the battery and starter? or where? i am still working on it. get back to me please. did it make the car run smoother too?

the ground that goes to the alternator and the one that goes to the harnes of the car not the one that goes on the bottom by the cable of the speedometer the other ground the little cable that comes out next to the thick cable from the battery and yes the car drives smother more accel hope it works good luck see my gallery

OK so the wire TO the harness... just on the engine side? don't need to replace it past the harness into the firewall? or did you go the whole way?

Awesome I will get er done soon... DAMN IS IT EVER COLD OUTSIDE. one of us has to suffer... is it me and the cold? or is it my baby and the lack of power... which is more important.. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm hard one haha
