Fatmat, Dynamat, Second Skin, etc etc

ight I'm looking at matting my entire car (floor, trunk, doors, quarter panels, rear deck, etc) and I'm wondering which brand to go with.

The fatmat you can get for 125.00 for 100 sq/ft http://www.fatmat.com/fatpaks/100.htm
Dynamat you can get fo 115.00 for 36 sq/ft (but of course this is better from what I hear) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=14932
Didn'treally look into second skin.
Brown Bread is also another choice.

I guess me question is this: Is paying 3x more for the Dynamat worth it? or would the fatmat be good enough?

Thanks in advance
Brian

Re: Fatmat, Dynamat, Second Skin, etc etc

Well if you think about it the Fatmat would be just as good since you will be getting 3 times as much. My brother used to work for a car audio company in town and they always used Dynamat and he wasn't too impressed with it. Fatmat also has different quality levels of their product. My brother also just got the 100sq ft for his truck, but hasn't had the chance to install it yet. The point is if there is 3x as much Fatmat you should be able to make it the same as Dynamat or probably better.

Re: Re: Fatmat, Dynamat, Second Skin, etc etc

true but I don't want to have to lay 3 layers of fatmat down either...if that's what you are getting to.

From what I hear the fatmat is quite nice. Not as nice as Dynamat but its still good and for the money...

I kind of wanna do this too. Would it reduce road noise as well? My engine and exhaust are pretty deafening..

Re: Fatmat, Dynamat, Second Skin, etc etc

I think I'm just going to go with the fatmat...1/3 of the price and I've talked to a guy personally that says he has had it for a couple months and is still VERY pleased with it

100ft roll for 125.00 my kind of stuff

I'll post pics of it while I'm doing it

Re: Fatmat, Dynamat, Second Skin, etc etc

I was thinking about doing it for exterior noise deadening also. Maybe after I remove my rear interior i'll try it. My car is kinda noisy as well.

from what i've read and heard, sound deadner is sound deadner. All it is is sticky tar paper. You can even pick it up at your local craft store from what i've been told.

I have been pondering this question for a while myself, so I asked the owner of the audio shop here in town, and of course, he said Dynamat Xtreme is by far the best. One thing to consider is that every brand that I know of, except for Dynamat Xtreme, have to be heated before they will tack. That is supposedly a bitch to do. Even regular Dynamat has to be heated with a heatgun. Xtreme is self-tacking, so you just peel off the back and you are ready to go. That would save a lot of time. I'm about to buy an Exreme bulk pack for my hatch. Just something to think about....

Re: Fatmat, Dynamat, Second Skin, etc etc

The regular Fatmat is comperable to the Dynamat extreme and it also doesn't have to be heated when applied. Peel and stick. Fatmat also has a series above the base line that is supposed to be better than the Extreme.

Re: Fatmat, Dynamat, Second Skin, etc etc

Ight so whats the plan guys?

Dynamat Extreme
Fatmat
Second Skin Damplifier

IMO IF I wanted to spend some more money I would get the Second Skin STFU80...it's much better than Dynamat Extreme for the same price.

All of these prices are including shipping

100 sq ft Fatmat is 135 (shipping is horrible so if you want to get it in normal time you need to do the thing for the extra 10.00)

100 sq ft Second Skin Dampilifier is 168

36 sq ft of Dynamat Extreme is 105 (112 sq ft of DE is 315)

I'm thinking just getting the Fatmat evreyone is pleased with it and for 135 bucks you can't beat. What do ya'll think?

Re: Fatmat, Dynamat, Second Skin, etc etc

Also you need about 100 sq ft to do an entire car

Dynamat is a racket. It is WAY overpriced and you are not going to notice a difference in performance. Deadeners that require heat for application are old school. I would recommend RAAMmat. It is very similar to all the rest. It is 60 mils thick and does not require heat for application. 62.5 sq. ft. for $79 + S&H. Check on eBay. Search for "raammat". Rick is a good guy and provides great customer service. Check my sounddomain link for some application pics. I didn't do the entire car. Just the trunk and some of the doors. Stuff works great.
