Three warning lights on at once - help! ('99 3.5 Liter Automatic)

After 109000 trouble free miles, I now periodically get the "SERVICE VEHICLE SOON", "TRAC OFF" and "ANTI-LOCK" lights come on and stay on when in drive. There is nothing noticably wrong with the car, but I'm worried that these lights are trying to tell me something. Anyone encountered anything like this? Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Well you are correct..your car is telling you there is a problem.
Although it is rare, all 3 of these lights coming on at the same time may be the result of 1 base problem, but I would say you may have 2 issues here.
I would have the codes read to see what direction you need to go in diagnosing and repairing your problem. (autozone can read the codes for you.)
Post the codes and we can help you.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had my codes read - it was 1571 - torque converter problem. How can transmission problem be the cause for TRAC OFF or ANIT-LOCK warning light??

Some one correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe code readers will read ABS or BCM codes.
The ABS light coming on, there will be a code stored in the ABS module.. Unfortunatly my service info is down, so I can't give you any ideas on your code..I'll check in the AM

I had that happen to me. I had a blowout and after putting on the spare, i found it was flat. It happened just after I bought it. It was a GM "certified used car" from Mack Haik Chevy. Go figure. I had no choice, so I drove it the mile to work. I had almost every light on the dash come on. Probably a sensor on the wheel with the spare noticed it was turning faster than the others, since it was flat. All lights you described came on. Might check the wheel sensors. Hope it helps.

Re: Three warning lights on at once - help! ('99 3.5 Liter Automatic)

Here is the information on your code
DTC P1571 Traction Control Torque Request Circuit

Circuit Description
This diagnostic test checks for a traction control system Desired Torque signal failure to the PCM. The PCM sends 5 volts on the Desired Torque circuit (CKT 463) to the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM). The EBTCM then rapidly switches this CKT to ground creating a PWM frequency signal to request a specific amount of torque reduction during a Traction Control event. If this PWM signal is not received by the PCM for 3 seconds, DTC P1571 is set.

Conditions for Running the DTC
DTC P1602 not set.
Traction control not failed.
Engine speed greater than 500 RPM for 20 seconds.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
PWM, frequency, signal not received on desired torque circuit for 3 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The powertrain control module (PCM) stores the DTC information into memory when the diagnostic runs and fails.
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will not illuminate.
The PCM records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The PCM stores this information in the Failure Records.
PCM disables first gear starts.
Transaxle shift adapts are maintained at current levels.
Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC
A History DTC will clear after forty consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other non-emission related diagnostic.
A last test failed (Current DTC) will clear when the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
Use a scan tool in order to clear the MIL/DTC.
Interrupting the PCM battery voltage may or may not clear DTCs. This practice is not recommended. Refer to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Description , Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Isaak,

Have you fixed your problem with with the three warning lights on?
I have the same problem.
99 Intrigue with the 3.8L and about 75K miles.
The LOW TRAC light comes on once in a while and it goes out after a few seconds. This happends after hitting a bump in the road, going over Rail Road tracks, pot-hole, or just driving over uneven surfaces.
It does this when it is not supposed to. I think there is a loose connection somewhere or one of the wheel sensors is about to fail.

Less often than the problem above, but more anoying, is when the Service Vehicle Soon, ABS and Low Trac (or is it Trac Off?) light come on at the same time.
I'm finally getting to the point where I can almost predict when this will happen.
This usually occurs right after the ABS Module does the, still anoying, Self Test and the lights will not clear until the ingnition is re-cycled.
On a few occasions this has happened, usualy when pulling into a parking spot with the steering wheel turned to the right and brake applied to slow down, the engine or transmission started to hesitate.

I have not taken the vehicle in for a check yet and I would like to diagnose and possibly repair it myself.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Thank you

Get the codes read and that will point you in the right direction.

Re: Three warning lights on at once - help! ('99 3.5 Liter Automatic)

I had the same problem with my 2002 it turned out to be the right side wheel sensor was bad. The wheel sensor is part of the bearning assym. and it was not cheap. part cost 389.00 plus labor to replace it.

Hope this helps.

Re: Three warning lights on at once - help! ('99 3.5 Liter Automatic)

No, I haven't done anything yet. At the dealer I was given a $1135 estimate for replacing EBTCM module (parts & labor), but they coud not guarantee that replacing the module would fix the problem. All three lights are now on almost all the time, and when they are on neither ABS brakes or Traction control work. By the way, cruise control does not work either.
There is a good possibility that the problem is outside of EBTCM in one of the sensors or in wiring and then replacing the module would be a big waste of money. I may try to find a used EBTCM when I get to it.
By the way, when they read my codes it came up with P1571 - Traction Control System Torque Request Circuit. Sorry I can't help.

I have had this problem with my old '98 Intrigue. I had two problems with that car associated with the TC; worn out struts and damaged wires at the hub to the vehicle speed sensors. I tried splicing the wires unsuccessfully and finally replaced the hub. Very expensive solution to a simple problem. The wires are exposed to a lot of abuse and don't stay attached to the clip that is supposed to hold them away from moving parts. The TC coming on over bumps (I lived in Detroit where the roads are terrible) was due to the struts and stopped when they were replaced. The worn out wiring problem was especially troublesome during wet driving.

This problem came up with my 98 Intrigue with 123K. Dealer did "scan test" and got code C1226. Found Right Hub/Harness open circut (Hub & Bearing Defective) They replaced the hub & bearing assembly and repaired the wire harness sensor connector. (There was water in the assembly.) This has corrected my problem. However it was not cheap to fix.

I have same problem with my 2000. The dealer scanned and came up with open circuit in right rear line. They wanted $525 for the part (hub/bearing) and $150 for the labor to replace it!! I went to Murray's and bought a hub/bearing assy. for $110!! Has anyone out there replaced a rear bearing assy.? It appear that the parking brake needs to be partially disassembled to remove the hub/bearing but is hard to tell without having seen it apart before.
