Driveside Door Problems!!!HELP!!!

My wife drives a 2000 LS and boy have we had our fair share of problems with it. Our most recent is the biggest pain. Our driverside door refuses to open from the inside. The outside handle will open the door no problem its just once we are in the car and actually trying to get out. I've taken the door apart and taken the lock out and looked at everything, but I have no idea what the problem is... has anyone else experienced this???

Re: Driveside Door Problems!!!HELP!!!

Sorry to hear of your difficulties. I also have a 2000. Unlike yours, mine has been nearly flawless. I'm afraid I don't know what your door problem is. I'll make some inquiries and let you know if I turn up anything...

"There is an interior handle actuating cable that may be disconnected. I would check there first."

Yeah another grand dsign of steel meets plastic. Mine did the wsame thing under warranty. They replaced the interior door handle assy. I looked at it before I took it in and it is easily field replacable.

Re: Re: Driveside Door Problems!!!HELP!!!

Mine does the same, but if I open the door lever gently and then pull the lock open at the same time, it opens the door. After some practice, you don't even notice it.

The problem sounds too familiar. The plastic handle on the inside has broken at the back side. It is sometimes hard to see as at first I thought the cable had stretched. You need to replace the handle assembly. Notice it is rivited into place. You will need to drill out the rivets and replace them with bolts when reinstalling the new handle. It takes about 1 hour.

I was afraid you would say that. I guess riveting minimizes the cost of manufacturing, but it makes the repair a lot more costly. Thanks for the info on the riveting, dws2122.

Followed your instructions yesterday afternoon and got my door handle replaced, in a couple of hours. Buttoned eveything up and tried to pull the car back in to my garage. But the battery was so drained that I could not start it. Since the car was partailly in the garage, I thought that, perhaps, I left the key on ignition and discharged the battery, while working on the door. Anyway, jump-started the car, let it recharge for some time, shut it off and it restarted perfectly, no hesitation. Pulled the car into the garage and left the car alone. This morning the battery is dead again. I only removed two leads at their connectors, so I am not sure where I may have caused a short that is draining the battery. Any ideas?
