Question

when going down the quarter, how are you supposed to start off the line? i'm asking for in any car too, not just honda's or front wheel drive. one of my friends says that when i go down the track, i should revv it to like 2-3k rpms and then pop the clutch when it turns green. this kind of makes sense, but won't i loose traction if i rev that high. and what about if you have like crazy horse power(700+) how are you supposed to do this without wheel slip and without a delay?

ps-i hope this makes sense.

I would have to say your friend would be right about the 2-3k rpm but don't pop the clutch. Find the friction point in the car (point in the clutch where you start moving) And rest the clutch just before it, and when you want to go let out the clutch at a moderate speed, not too fast but not too slow. A little wheel spin is not a bad thing. If you can warm the tires up. Also When starting at the "tree" you should go at the last yellow lights, it will get you close to a 500 start. (500 start is perfect)

When the HP is 700 you would usually warm up the sliks and then you'll stick to the ground.

The best thing is to warm up the tires via brake stand for rear wheel drive cars. Or for the front wheel drive cars reverse, forward, e-brake

What kind of prelude do you have? stats too? If you know the high point on your torque try to keep the rpm below that. When racing my Volvo I do exactly what I said. My torque curve peaks at 2750 rpm so I rev it to about 2250-2500rpm.

Good luck hope I helped.

This may be a stupid question, but how do you do a brake stand.

Cool

I think he means hold your foot lightly on the brake and use the accelerater pedal to spin the rear wheels of a rear wheel drive car. that is how I do it anyway.

If you are useing street tyres then the trick is not to get them too hot, just warm.

If you are using slicks then get em hot:smoka:

Alright, if your using street tires you might just wanna skip warming them up(if your a beginer) because if they get too warm they will actually form a gloss over the tread making them LESS grippy. Try to roll around the waterbox if the officials will let you. I agree 100% with what the other guy(cant remember name) said about launching before your peak torque. If your wishing to run down a track often, or even semi-often I suggest you invest in a line lock as it will save you lots of money in brake replacement. Basicly what a line lock does(only for RWD) is it locks your front tires and applys no pressure to your rear tires allowing you to do your burnout(if running slicks/cheaters) without wearing down your brake shoes/pads. If your only gonna run every here and there dont worry about it you wont wear your brakes that much.

First off, DRIVE AROUND THE WATER BOX!
Other racers get EXTREMELY pissed off when you drive thru it and track water up to the line. It costs us precious tenths!
Rev the car up and dump the clutch just to get the tires to spin BREIFLY to clean them off. Roll up and Stage.
Then, experiment with launch RPM's. Try launching at one RPM, if you spin too much, lower it a few hundred and try again. Eventually you'll find the perfect Launch Technique.

Launch at your peak torque... slip the clutch or feather the throttle (icant slip the clutch, 6 puck is just OFF/ON)

I launch @ 4600rpms, JUST shy of VTEC..... puts me into the powerband pretty quick. An LSD also helps extrodinarily well....

I blew my open differential in my first tranny, launched @ 6500... 1.9 60ft time, .592 r/t, but the tranny went to shit before the 1/8th and I knew something was up...

haha i skip any sort of burnout, avoid the water box, put it at redline and drop the clutch. but then again my car is awd. i wish it would spin a little cuz the engine likes to bog down. oh well ill be glad i have so much damn traction when i push the horsepower much higher. sheesh how much power do i need to spin the 185 series tires? 170 hp 170 fpt dont seem to do it i get 4 black marks about 2 feet long and thats it.
