Question how much boost

how much boost is the stock boost on a 90-94 dsm and what can you run safley on stock internals? and what would be a good way to crank your boost up safley like a bigger intercooler etc..

Stock boost is around 11 psi. Poeple run over 30 psi on stock internals (90-92 "6 bolt" motors) but the car has to be very well modded to survive that. I wont go through the whole list again, since I've answered this so many times here. Search around, or go to the POSR site in my sig, and look on Chads page. He ran 31 psi on a completely stock motor and put down 497 whp. He has all of the mods one would need.

-Intercooler Piping
-Performance Clutch
-O2 Sensor Housing
-Fuel Pump
-Exhaust Manifold
-High Flow Downpipe....3 or 2.5 im not sure

Re: how much boost

By internal mods usually people mean pistons, rods, crank. These are the critical elements for surviving high boost.....or you may have parts looking like this

haha...detonation rules

he 90-92 motors a re 6 bolt motors, and the 93-99 motors are all 7 bolt. The 7 bolts came wiht smaller rods, so they generally cant take as much power on stock internals. I would be happy to do some searching and find you some links where this has all been posted, but thats your job You dont even have to search. I wrote up a nice mod path yesterday, so it should be on the first page of threads.

You will be able to run 20 psi on those mods, but you will need race gas, which also requires fuel control to compensate ofr the higher specific gravity of race fuel (or you will be running rich). To run this on pump gas, just add a good FMIC. A larger turbo will make more pwoer at the same 20 psi since a 14b is at its limits at 20 psi on pump. But it will work. Datalogging is almost required though, since you're pushing the limits of the setup. Better safe than sorry. There are some good threads in the last couple days about fuel control and datalogging, be sure to check those out. Hope it helps.
