engine removal need help!!!!

i own a 85.5 944 and need help

i am replaceing the rod bearings for my 944 and have prepared the engine to be removed, everything is already disconnected and next weekend i am going out to buy a engine stand and rent a engine lift.
i need to know if it is in anyway possible for the engine to be removed from the top. i have already preped it for top removeal. in all the manuals ive read they sayed for it to be removed from the bottum but i dont have a lift or the spcae to do this. i called a certified porsche specialist and asked and he said "removeing from the bottum is perfered" i need to know if it is possible to remove from the top and if so what i need to do

i can already see that the lower crossmember is in the way of the oil pan but plan to just disconnect that if there isnt enough room to slide the engine forward off the flywheel

please help me out and if you use aim IM me at cg3wp

thanks

Re: engine removal need help!!!!

First-if all your doing is rod bearings why are you even taking the engine out? Rod bearings are easily replaced simply by dropping the crossmember and pan.
Second-Porsche designed the engine to come out the bottom-its easier trust me. But if you perfer the top- you must remove radiator, Altinator, and crank pully to allow it to come forward off of the torque tube splines--good luck

i understand what you mean but im not sure if it did any damage to the crankshaft, and im prolly going to replace the clutch (dont know if previous owner pounded it hot rodding) and it'd seem easier to replace them with it on an engine stand, plus i already have it preped for removel so i might as well go with it now

thanks
