Supercharge ANY Car 69.95???

So I'm flipping through my lastest edition of Motortrend. I notice in the classifieds an ad saying supercharge any car for 69.95. I visited the site and it looks to my as if its another hoax. Like the "electric superchargers" Basically they are claiming tram more air or rather "optimize the atomization of gasoline" Hmmmm I think its bullshit. What do yall think? Gain 10 to 30% hp/mpg?

Guy I used to work with swears by something like that. He put it on all his cars. I don't believe him and since I've never read a supporting article that was from an unbiased reviewer, I wouldn't spend my hard earned dollar on that BS.

I'll second that opinion, I've been working with compressor systems for more than twenty years, if this thing was driven by something it would have somewhat of an effect, but spinning like fan in between the intake and the air filter does squat.

Re: Supercharge ANY Car 69.95???

anyone else laugh, when the words "generator with no moving parts" was used. that doesn't make any sense. i think it's BS. i wouldn't even volunteer to test one on my vehicle. it would be a waste of my time. not to mention that technically, the thing isn't anywhere close to being a turbocharger. so why the man would advertise "turbocharge any car!" is beyond me.

Re: Supercharge ANY Car 69.95???

excuse me, i meant to be using the word supercharge. i was thinking about the fact that the man calls it the turbonator, hence i was thinknig of turbochargers.

It's not charging anything. It causes the air to spin as it goes into the engine. It might be interesting to test the air/fuel mixture of the system, but it's definately not worth 70 bucks.

vortex effect on combustion

I don't know how effective this product would be because it is creating the 'vortex' before the carb or injector unit. It seems, to me, theoretically it might be a bit more effective on a carb, with more area open for air intake, also it's closer to the cylinders. Don't forget the bends in the air intake system and intake manifold or plenum will reduce the swirl as well.

If you look at GM's vortec or the Tornado 2-stroke motor, these products create the 'swirl' effect inside the combustion chamber, instead of trying to push 'pre-swirled' air through the system.

The idea appears to be to reduce unburnt gas and reduce emissions.

Here is a technical study for turbine engines:
http://www.navo.hpc.mil/Navigator/Sp..._Feature1.html

I don't endorse this product, and I can't afford it.

I'm just interested in the physics of it. Although on jet engines e.g. passenger planes you will note a set of vanes on the intake area, I assume this will have a similar effect besides forcing air through into the combustion area?

Re: Supercharge ANY Car 69.95???

To hell with this crap. To tell you the truth, i don't even know how the man got enough money to put this bs of a product on the tv. Believe me, no kiddin, i saw this POS on the tv. Any idea how much 1 minute of tv ad costs?

Maybe he's getting the money from those ricer boys or those mexicans who drive honda civics with sputtering mufflers thinking their ride is all buffed up when they are overhauling and redlining the engine at 30mph. (not intended to be racist --- just a fact...don't you agree?).

Personally, i'm a big engine person. To tell you the truth, and yes you can laught ur arses off at this...to prove a friend of mine wrong, i used a leaf blower. Seriously. I have couple of cars but for this, i took a 2001 crown vic ex po po. I dynoed it infront of my friend by literally forcing air into the system with the leaf blower. Result? Gain of .24 hp at 3100 rpm. I also used a 20 gallon compressed air tank and emptied it into the intake pipe. What did it do? gain of .92 hp at 2400 rpm. Theoretically speaking, these two d-vices produce more air pressure than that vortex creating pos.

I'm pretty sure leaf blowers will give you like 20 HP. I know there is a videos of people doing that, while on dynos. Not disagreeing with you. We put a fart can on my buddys crown vic, and I went, "The ford is saying, what are you doing to me?!?!" and it did nothing at all. If anything it just made it sound like it wasent the 5 liter engine.
haha
If I wanted to take a chance with something like that I might buy it, but that money could fill up my tank twice.
But this is just the same thing as "the tornado", which you can buy at autozone, and I've had a few friends who have put them in their trucks, and one of them (ford f250) used to get around 15 MPG and he now gets 19, and he didnt drive any different than usual. so who knows

You wern't doing something right. These guys tried it on several vehicles, and had pretty dramatic gains.

The product in question is complete BS, but the leafblower thing is legit.

That streetfire video is impressive. Hmmmmm.....would a 2 cycle leaf blower coming out a hole in the hood be tacky?
