b16 crx running like crap

i just finished my first swap. using a 1st gen b16 in a crx with a spoon chipped pr3 ecu. the engine is actually running slower than the stock si engine. it seems like its getting too much air and not enough fuel. ecu is throwing a code 7 (tps sensor) and occasionally i hear a back fire through the intake. i took the tps sensor off the si engine and used it on the b16 since that one was cracked.

right now i dont know if its just that sensor thats throwing me off, or if i have a bad ecu, or what the problem is. any help is appreciated.

thanks,
plastik

i just read on another forum that i was supposed to switch the 2 wires on the tps sensor around. this is the first time i have heard of this. is this a normal part of the process, or is it because i used the tps sensor off of the stock si motor?

has anyone heard of this before or know of any instructional links?

Did you change the fuel pump??? I'm not sure but I don't think the stock D16 fuel pump can support that enigne, this may be your problem.

You would only need to switch the tps wires if you car was a duelport engine to begain with .. if the new tps took care of the tbs code and it still runs rough.. make sure to adjust the tps sensor back to spec.. this is easily done , just need a volt meter.. and simple shop manuel will give you details.. hayes/chiltons.... also did you hook up the second 02 sensor??? and go back and double check the timming...

another possible problem.. I do remember one time we install a guys engine he had bought (b16A).. had a running problem .. turned out to have 1 injector stuck closed... a simple way to check is while the car is running.. unplug one injector at a time.. if injector is working the rps of the engine should drop down when you unplug it, plug back in and go to the next one.. you can also check the ingenition the same way with the sparkplug wires..

alway thought I would give my input...
good luck

Re: b16 crx running like crap

i know this makes no sense with the prob. but i put a d16 in my buddies crx it was runing rough and throwing code 7 i realized that the vacuum hoses around the map sensor and for the intake manifold were all wrong. i changed them and the car ran fine. check your hoses the tps could be your prob but vacuum was mine the light still comes on but it runs smoothly with the hoses in the right order.

or you get the right tps for the b16a.I kno the stock SI one won't work. You will have to get a new Throttle body with the tps for it to work. Also, change the spark plugs.

We recently swapped a DOHC ZC into a 90 crx and it was running like shyt.Idle was beyond imaginable. When we drove it there was no power. It was not getting spark to #3 plug.Reason, there was oil on the wire/plug. Somehow oil got above the spark plug an was ruiing the spark. We changed all the plugs and wires and the car was running like a champ. Even pulled a decent 15.8 at the track the day after.

Re: b16 crx running like crap

yeah... try that, get the right tps, and mess with a bunch of little things vacuum lines, give it a tune, check for all cylinders sparking, make sure wiring is ran ok, etc.

Re: Re: b16 crx running like crap

Did you swap the main fuel feed line, coming off the filter to the fuel rail? The D-series line is a lot wimpier, and I couldn't even get my car started after the swap because of it. Get an Si fuel feed line and you'll get the same amount of fuel made for the engine. Also a Walboro fuel pump wouldn't hurt.

About the tps sensor, they're universal.. I used my dx one on my b16, so you should be okay there (unless yours is broken).
