Sohc Vtec Is This A Deal
Hey eveyone.
Okay here is the deal, my d15b2 with mpfi had a little problem and it kicked the bucket. Well i really dont have a backup car so im borrowing my moms till i can get it fix. Well anyway a guy is willing to sell me a 92-95 obd1 SOHC VTEC engine for 425.00 with 5spd transmission. NO ecu. Does anyone think this is a good deal???? I think it is and it will sustain me for like 6 months till i go bigger? Do you think that thats a good deal???? Thanks Andrew all i think i need to do is obd1 to obd0 and wire vtec Is the tranny hydraulic. If yes would it be easier to use my 5spd lx one?? |

Re: Sohc Vtec Is This A Deal
Well, for that price, why dont you get the JDM D15B (sohc vtec) which normally has less miles, has a warranty, etc.
Yes the tranny is a hydro, if it is the same one that came with the car. |

I would go for it (if it's a D16Z6). If the problem with the D15 was in the MPFI I would suggest against it as you will need all the MPFI parts to run your current ECU with the new engine (or you could convert to OBD1 and find an ECU for it).

Re: Sohc Vtec Is This A Deal
Well the only reason i was interested in it was because the guy lived close to me and he would deliver. Its a true sohc vtec. The engine block is stamped ZC and it was a front clip that had 47xxx on it.
Oh and i was going to convert to obd1. ANy thought please?? How hard is it to convert to a hydro, the engines not a hybrid its a true sohc zc... Or would it be easier to use my d15b2??? tranny?? |

You can sell the hydraulic tranmission on ebay and easily get at least $150 for it. I paid ~$850 shipped for a DOHC ZC and low mileage SI tranny (they were from different places so shipping sucked) so I think $425 and free delivery is a steal.

Re: Sohc Vtec Is This A Deal
How much of a power decrease will be about with using a lx 5spd tranny.
Im only using this for ease of install. |

Okay, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but first off, there was no 92-95 ZC engine in a Honda. The ZC came in the 86-87 (Chassis code AT) JDM Civic Si, the 88-91 (Chassis Code EF) JDM Civic Si, 86-89 (Chassis Code AV) JDM Integra, and the 90-93 (Chassis Code DB) JDM Integra. Also, the 85-87 CRX Si and the 89-92 CRX Si1.6/1.6i had the ZC too. All the ZC's but the last one (90-93 JDM Integra) where rated at 129HP@6800rpm and 106 ft/lbs@5700rpm with a Compression Ratio of 9.6:1. The 90-93 JDM Integra ZC was rated at 119hp@6300rpm and 105 ft/lbs@5500rpm with a Comperssion Ratio of 9.0:1. The ZC found in the 86-87 and 88-91 Civic was 1595cc, the one found in the 86-89 and 90-93 Integea was 1590cc. The 86-87 Civic Si and 86-89 Teg came w/ a CG tranny. the 88-91 Civic Si came w/ a L3, and the 90-93 Teg came with a S1, A1, or J1 tranny. Maybe the SOHC Vtec ZC was the one found in the Teg. If you can get the tranny code it might help with the source of your ZC. I have seen the SOHC ZC listed on ARDperformances website before, but not reallyu anywhere else. I have never seen one in real life. I know most ZC motors where a non-vtec DOHC desgin @ 1595cc, so I am guessing the 1590 ones where the one you where looking at. I personally wouldn't get it. It doesn't feel right to me. Plus, you'll need to buy the proper Vtec ECU. Anyways, there's info on ZC's for yea, hope it helps.

well...http://www.nippon-motors.com/honda.htm shows it as a D16A6...a SOHC non-Vtec motor in the 92-95 JDM civic.....it's listed as "ZC/D16A6."
However, http://www.ardperformance.com/cgi-bi...l?action=index shows a SOHC Vtec "ZC" from a 92-95. My best guess is this.....that motor is probably a D16Z6....just like the SOHC non-vtec ZC is a D16A6......I am guessing it's from a 1.6 SOHC Vtec JDM Civic, and is probably what is called the D16Z6 here...either that or they have mini-me swapped the D16A6/ZC motor... Sorry I am un-able to be more clear. |

Re: Sohc Vtec Is This A Deal
THATS OKAY. THE PIC LOOKed like it was a hybrid between a d15b vtec head and a d16a6/zc block, thats why i thought it was stamped zc on the block.
