CD Player

The factory CD Player in my 99 Tahoe quit working, mostly. It used to play purchased and burned CD's. Then it refused to play burned CD's. It displays ERR and spits the CD out. Now it won't play purchased CD's either. Well, it will play one Cowboy Mouth disc. Am I being punished for burning CD's?

I removed it and cleaned the laser with a q-tip & rubbing alcohol. Didn't see anything that looked unusual.

Anyone else had this problem? Did you fix it? I am really not interested in buying a new stereo.

Re: CD Player

I am having the exact same problem. My CD player (in my `99 Tahoe) stopped working in October, and it exhibits the same behavior listed in the original thread. I did not use any Burned CDs, just the stamped CDs purchased from the store, so it can't be caused by simply using Burned CDs in the player. Worst of all, we didn't use it all that much. Has anyone been able to resolve this problem? Could a power outage in the vehicle put the player in this state? Is there a secret code to enter to allow the CD Player to talk to the radio ... maybe an anti- theft device? The dealership is talking about somewhere from $200 - $600 to either repair or replace the player ...WHAT?!!!

This may not be the problem, but useful information. Regarding burned cds, if the amount of time burned on the cd is over 72 minutes, it wont play. For some reason most factory cd players only play 72 min. or less cds, ei. purchased cds.
