Unhappy 2002 Silverado with 5.3 liter Vortex

It seems in between oil changes that the oil goes down on the dipstick.
Sometimes under hard acceleration, black smoke comes out. The oil doesn't go down much on dipstick, but I was wondering if it is suppose to go down at all or if other people are noticing this and I should get it back to the dealer? Thanks, mrsparky637

Re: 2002 Silverado with 5.3 liter Vortex

There are some GM technical bulletins regarding oil consumption on the GEN3 engines..unfortunately my service info is down today and I can't get you the numbers

And let me add that 1 quart in 3000 miles is not considered abnormal in a GM engine
