Question 93 grand am battery light

I have a 1993 grand am and the battery light has come on and flickers on and off. I have had the battery and the alternator checked and both are working fine what might cause the battery light to come on and stay on. the car drives fine and there seems to be no problem while driveing it

Make sure the ground wires are tight and that the connections at the battery are tight as well. You may want to remove the battery connections and clean them. The only other thing I would suggest is to make sure the alternator belt is in good condition and not slipping.

ok no problem with battery conections. when car is driving and turn on ac it also pulsates with the bat light. as do head lights and everything else.. Also seems that if u move the key at all the car will die like maybe the starter switch is shorting out any ideas where to start.

Re: 93 grand am battery light

It could be a problem with the ignition switch itself. It is not difficult to change but it will take time. If the key is moved then there is probably a short or bad wiring connection somewhere in the ignition circuit.

I'll second what GTP said, anytime you jiggle a key and get adverse reactions it's usually not a good sign. A bad ignition switch would be at the top of the list of suspects in my book.

thanks for the help i replaced the ignition switch and that did not fix the flashing light.. but i got this idea that maybe it was not a loss of power rather a surge of power causing the problem so i put a multi meter to the altenator and guess what 16.7 was the reading. replaced altenator and presto all is fine .....
i guess it was a good idea to replace the switch now it does not kill the car when u tinker with it.. this is the 3rd alenator for this car any ideas why im going through them??
