brake light keeps coming on

I have a 91 s10 blazer 4.3l .The brake warning light comes on after driving for about a minute every time i go somewhere(it doesn`t come on right away when the vehicle is first started). There are no leaks, emergency brake is ok.Anyone know why this would be?

Re: brake light keeps coming on

I think that is a indicator that your brake pads are bad I had the same thing on My 92 and put new pads on and the warning light went away I think it work on how far your brake cylinder/calaper moves the more your pads are worn the futher the cylinder travels

I don`t think that`s it.....the pads are only about a year old.I also replaced the shoes and rear axle seals about 2 months ago.........

That light either serves 2 or 3 purposes. 1. It will come on if your brake fluid is low (which is why it came on for you, 70D, when your pads were low) 2. It comes on when your E-brake is on (obvious). And 3. (optional) Some of the older blazers came equipped with RWAL (rear wheel abs), in which the ABS system used the "Brake Warning Light" as the "ABS light". Mine came on, and I couldnt figure it out. So I found out that it has RWAL (my dad owned this blazer for 6 years and never knew, lol). So I ended up sayin F**k the ABS, and replaced the ABS proportioning valve with a conventional prop. valve, and got rid of the ABS.

First, check your brake fluid. Then if thats ok there is a test, similar to the "ALDL check engine light test", the one that u do with a paperclip in the ALDL connecter. Theres an ABS test pin in the ALDL connector, and when you jump the pins, the brake light will flash, and display a code, which will tell you whether your abs is functioning properly or not. Unforturnately I do not remember the procedure or the codes, but it is in the haynes manual in the brake section. If you dont have a haynes manual, let me know, maybe i can dig up the info for you.

Sorry for the long post.

Hope this helped
