Well, I have a 2004 WRX sedan and my wife has a 2002 Subaru Forester S and we have one toddler. If you can only have one car, I think Forester XT would be a perfect compromise. I just can't imagine having 2 dogs and 2 kids in my WRX, even if it were a wagon.
One thing I do have to say is that Forester isn't much bigger than Impreza in terms of rear seats (actually, not bigger at all). Yes, extra cargo space is nice, but I was thinking that if we were to have another child, we need (or she needs) to get something bigger like a Honda Pilot. But you just can't beat that power/speed for an SUV on that XT unless you pay 2-3 times more goint up to BMW X5 or porsche Cayenne. Cost performance on that XT is pretty astounding, I should say, and we love our forester, even though it's not a Turbo. Just imagine though....having 2 kids and 2 dogs in your XT and kicking the heck out of RSX's, Civic's, integras at an intersection....
I did hear rumors about Subaru coming up with a 7 passenger SUV though, but I think it won't be until late 2004 or early 2005....
